Jaslyn Cakes at Bangsar KL, Jalan Telawi 2 is a new cake & dessert shop that Summergirl so anticipated to try out since the bakery opened its door to public. As its name called, cakes in Jaslyn Cake is baked by Jaslyn, a baker who accomplished her baking skills and traning at the reputable Le Cordon Bleu London. Jaslyn Cakes used to supply cakes to Wondermama Bangsar Village, earning likings from many customers, saying that their cakes are real good. Congrates, as they finally surface their own cake shop.
Jaslyn Cakes is located directly opposite to Antipodean or La Bodega. It is easily missed out due to the shop sign in white backdrop. Look out for Pristine Laundry shop appear in bright green, Jaslyn Cake is just beside it.
This quaint little shop welcomed us with an array of homebaked goodness, mainly cakes and cookies, at the front counter. Selections range from Simple Chocolate Loaf, Banana Loaf, CUstard Doughnut, Vanilla Bean Cheesecake, Chocolate and Lime Loaf, Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake, Chocolate Raisin cookies, Lemon Cream Tart and more. Tea and coffee are available too, but no trace of savoury food and main courses.
Since we just had our breakfast at Brickfields and lunch at LA/PA by Quartet, we ordered just a slice of cake. Summergirl happily browsed through all the tempting cakes, and decided for Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake, but received unpleasant look from the staff.
Summergirl: ” Can I have one Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake?”
Staff: ” OK. Anything else?”
Summergirl: ” No thanks. Just one.”
Staff (raised her tone): ” Huh?! Only one slice of cake?!”
Summergirl: ” ………………. Yes.”
Hmm, any problem for ordering one slice of cake? Yes, Jaslyn Cakes is famous for their cakes but I believe customer has the choice of ordering how many slices of cake they want. It doesn’t mean that we have to order 10 cakes for 2 persons to express our liking towards your cake.
Peanut Butter Chocolate RM13.90
We deducted marks for their service but leave the chance for their cake, seeing that Jaslyn Cakes is still new and there is still room for improvement.
Vanilla Bean Cheesecake is their best-seller, but we went safe for Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake. Made using premium ingredients, we have no doubt on Jaslyn Cakes quality but the cake texture is not into our liking.
It is very moist, so moist that we feel it has lost all its texture to just being sticky moist. The plus point is the intense chocolaty and creamy sweetness of peanut butter that come into good marriage, making it just nice and not too sweet.
Later on, we tried to get some photos of Jaslyn Cakes for the blog usage. Again, the same staff showed unpleasing look at us. Halfway taking photos, she came to us and said:
Staff: “Are you the one sitting at the back, corner side?”
Staff: ” You ordered Peanut Butter Chocolate Cake? Did you pay for your cake?”
Staff (*in disbelieved look):” Ooohh..you paid?”
Summergirl : ” …………………..yes.”
All her actions really turned up our anger. She was supposed to check with the cashier counter whether we have paid or not, and we felt uncomfortable with her disbelief look even after we told her we have paid. It has been quite a long time we did not encounter such a bad staff, even in extra busy cafe. We hope Jaslyn Cakes can be more aware on their service. Other than that, they can be a great, promising cake shop.
