Coffee Smith Malaysia @ Damansara Uptown, PJ

Coffee Smith Malaysia ( 咖啡史密斯 ) has opened a new outlet in Damansara Uptown, Petaling Jaya after their successful opening in Maritime Piazza, Penang back in 2013. Originated from Taiwan, Coffee Smith started out as a small kiosk selling freshly brewed coffee and simple grab-and-go food in Taipei, Taiwan. Great feedback from customers has driven Coffee Smith to go better, and they developed into a cafe with full-fledge menu not so long after.

With the name Coffee Smith, the cafe aims to carry on the spirit of a professional smith, who gives out full focus in doing their work. Their baristas are committed, armed with knowledge of coffee beans, coffee machines, coffee making techniques, culture of coffee. Kitchen team is concern about the food quality, ingredients’ freshness and even down to presentation, churning out the best for each diner.

Located in Damansara Uptown (between Gong Cha Milktea and Craft Pizza), Coffee Smith may not gain advantage in terms of location, or to say, it will be a tough journey to compete with many of the cafes in this area. But with the reputation they have gained from Penang throughout these few years, we believe Coffee Smith will do good.

Fried Fish Fillet & Fries with Mashed Pototoes RM29.68 (+ black coffee/juice)

Menu selections ranging from sandwich to spaghetti, risotto, meat courses, waffle, cakes and more, price mostly below RM30 with great portion. Set lunch is available on weekdays, while early bird can enjoy special breakfast set at cheaper price, from 8AM-11AM. Hope this will be a continuous promotion.

We were there after 11AM so “bye bye” cheap brunch set. Summerkid opted for Fried Fish Fillet & Fries with Mashed Pototoes from Brunch menu. It arrived in a large tray, putting together two large pieces of breaded fish fillet served over French Fries, sided with mashed potatoes, toasted bread, Fruit Yogurt and Tartar Sauce. A brunch scene that made us felt so happy, like eating Teishoku. Haha. Each brunch is also included a choice of fruit juice or black coffee.

Seasonal Fruite Waffle RM18.82

We could barely finish half of it. Honestly, this can be shared among two if you aren’t big eater. Summergirl had Waffle with Seasonal Fruit, again, a portion that exceeded our expectation. Aside from the waffle, they gave us a total of 7 types of fruits, with two scoops of ice cream! Worth it.

Waffle wise, we enjoy the crispy outer layer but could do better with the batter, which is a little dry to us. Still alright as having together with ice cream fixed this out. For the savoury, our order is highly recommended. Other selections which received positive comments include Porcini Mushroom Risotto with Beef Stick, Cuttlefish Risotto with Grilled Cuttlefish and Garlic Clams Linguine Pasta.

Cappuccino RM11.66

Finally a nice cappuccino, Summergirl like this. Coffee Smith also offers flavour-infused latte such as Hazelnut Latte, Gingerbread Latte, Muse Latte, Wooden Stick Latte, Rose Latte, Vanilla Latte, Mint Latte and Almond Latte. We still prefer the classic white and black. For more creative beverage, check out Potted Series – drink from a mini flower pot. Miners Potted Mango Milk Shake, Miners Potted Latte, Miners Potted Milk Tea, Miners Potted Coco to choose from.

In short, a great place to dine it, be it for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just merely chilling out with a cup of coffee and a piece of cake. Environment goes on retro style, surrounded by charming vintage ornaments. And, get the topic out from food a little, Coffee Smith washroom is the best among all the cafes in Klang Valley we have visited so far. Like walking into a washroom in Japan. LOL. That’s why we love this place, attention to detail even on minor things.
