Tokyo Secret Malaysia @ IPC: Japanese Hanjuku Cheese Tart

May 28, 2016 by summerkid_summergirl

Tokyo Secret Malaysia IPC

Tokyo Secret, the Japanese Hanjuku Cheese Tart ( Half Baked Cheese Tart ) specialist from Hong Kong has arrived in Malaysia, opening their first outlet in Ikano Power Centre ( IPC ) Shopping Mall!

While Tokyo Secret is not originated from Japan, it doesn’t mean that it will not taste good. Using high quality cheese directly imported from the Japan, alongside with secret recipe that makes the flavour stay close to the version from Land of Rising Sun, rest assured, Tokyo Secret Malaysia may soon becoming the next Japanese dessert hit after Uncle Tetsu Cheesecake and Chateraise Patisserie.

Location wise, you may discover Tokyo Secret when walking along the corridor outside the mall, but definitely not from inside if you didn’t pay attention to it. It is at the ground floor of IPC, the way towards IKEA furniture store. Look for ACE Hardware store and Nando’s, and you will see it at the opposite, beside Mac City. Walk out from the exit between SAMSUNG and Mac City store (the former Pretz & Beanz), turn right. There’s also an entrance to Tokyo Street in Mac City store, but we personally feel it is quite weird to enter there.

Tokyo Secret is a very small premise with space half occupied by payment & display counter, while the other half filled with few tables and chairs. And the rest, kitchen to bake the legendary half-baked cheese tart of course.  Waiting time can be long, as all cheese tart are freshly baked, batch by batch.

So if those customers before you happened to buy a lot and clear the whole tray of tart, you will need to wait for the next round. That was what happened to us. There was only two customers in front of us when we visited, but they polished clean the whole tray with purchase of a dozen of cheese tart. LOL Nice food is always worth the wait, with patience, needless to say.

After half an hour, finally we got our two pieces of Hanjyuku Cheese Tart. Haha. Size is bigger than expected, priced at RM7.90 per piece. Thick crust, crumbly with slightly crispy edges. Filled with delicate, gooey half baked cheese. Thick in consistency, rich flavour, one is enough to make us full.

Tokyo Secret IPC also offers Fusion Affogato and Special Theme Ice Cream Series, namely Maple Volcano (ice cream blended with whole Hazelnut from Italy, added with raspberry sauce and air-dried raspberry from France, finished with special volcano eruption effect to make it lives up to its name); Fujiyama Winter (soft serve made from Hokkaido milk, topped with frozen, crunchy blueberry sauce from France and handsome white chocolate snow flakes. A romantic taste under Mount Fuji); Uji Frost (Combination of Kyoto maruyuku koyamen matcha and Baumkuchen cake, putting a taste that resembles beautiful nature of Japan). Price isn’t cheap though, from RM16 to RM19.

Overall comment: For the price of RM7.90 and generous size, Tokyo Secret Hanjyuku Half Baked Cheese Tart is worth a try. Service can be a little slow as the cafe is still new.
