Checkers Cafe @ Dorsett Regency Kuala Lumpur (Invited Review)

In the month of November, Checkers Cafe at Dorsett Regency Kuala Lumpur brings in an exciting feast with the theme of East Meets West. You will find delicious Eastern cuisines and Western cuisines here, all prepared by the-very-experienced Executive Chef Yau and his team. The promotion is made available from 1st to 30th November for lunch on weedays at RM70.00++  per adults, while dinner is priced at RM60.00 ++ per adult. Children from 4 to 12 years old and senior citizens for 55 years and above will enjoy 50% discount on the buffet price.

For lunch, everything is in buffet style. However, one can pick up the cost saving lunch which offers a potpourri of appetizer, main course and dessert choices. Appetizers are priced at RM20++ per person, main course is priced at RM30++ per person and desserts are priced at RM20++ per person. A special 20% discount is applicable for diners which choose the cost saving lunch.

While for dinner, it is semi-buffet style, so dinners can enjoy appetizers, light mains and desserts from the buffet counter, while at the same time order one mains from the menu given. We were there for dinner one Tuesday evening, so we are happy enough to indulge in wide range of buffet selections and one main course.

We start healthily from the salad station, which offers types of fresh vege such as honey tomato, lettuce, cucumber, carrot, and capsicum, flavour touched up with thousand island sauce, italian dressing or french dressing.

Continue to pile up our plates with cold appetizers such as potato salad, seafood salad, chicken salad, roasted vegetable salad, turkey toast salad. We like the chicken salad, and the seafood salad with large succulent prawns are not bad too.

Not to forget are the smoked ham slices, and smoked salmon, which we have few helpings for both.

Seafood on ice: mussels, prawns, oyster are available too. Large and fresh.

Warm up the tummy with their watercress soup, which is comforting and nourishing. Or, scoop a bowl of thick, creamy dhal mushroom soup.

Varieties of cheese such as blue cheese, camembert cheese, cheddar cheese, and adam cheese are available at the buffet counter too. Paired lovely with fruits or breads.

We find Inari, Ikura Gunkan, cucumber roll, crabmeat roll here too.  Not much variety, but all taste good. Some light local mains such as Fried Kuey Teow, Stir Fried Vegetables with Garlic, Braised Crab with Herb and Spices, Stir Fried Chicken with Spring Onion and Ginger are lovely too, but we do not taste much for we want to save the tummy for ala-carte mains.

There are 14 choices in the mains menu. Beef, lamb, seafood, chicken, risotto or pasta, you pick your favourite.

For Premium Beer mains, there are choices of: Sous Vide Eye of Beef Rump served with Horseradish and Mison Sauce, Flat Iron Steak with Mustard Cream Sauce and Olive oil served with Grilled Vegetable of the Day, Herb Crusted Sous Vide Eye of Rump on Bed of Vegetables. The boy chooses Sous Vide of Beer Rump. Done medium and taste meaty, better if the meat were fattier and juicier.
Seafood mains are more tempting, which choices like Barramundi Fish Fillet served over a bed of Risotto and  Slow Roasted Vegetables, Barramundi On Capelinne Pasta with Balsamic Orange Vinaigrette, Crab and Seafood Open Face Lasagne with Garlic Basil Sauce, Poached Salmon, Prawn and Spinach Tortellini Caviar on Tomato Soup, Butter Fish Fillet with Leek Risotto and Prawn Bisque.
The girl picks her mains from the seafood selection- the Grilled Salmon with Teriyaki Sauce and Sauteed Vegetable and Garlice Flakes. This dish is fantastic, with fresh, soft and fatty salmon flesh, complemented well by the Teriyaki sauce. Highly recommended and the must try!
From the poultry selection, there are Pan-Roasted 60 minutes Cooking Chicken Breast with Sundried Tomato and Olive Oil Dressing, Chicken Ballentine with Blue Cheese and Greek Salad, Chicken Schnitzel with Avocado Mousse and Mornay Prawn.
Also, there is Australian Lamb Shoulder Chop with Peppery Mint Sauce to choose from, which smelt so nice at the moment it is served to the table. Perfectly grilled without much gamey taste, the lamb shoulder is another recommended choice here.

Finally, is dessert time. We pamper ourselves with the widespread desserts, are prepared beautifully in petite size. Opera cake, blueberry crumble, chocolate cheese cake, fruit jelly, lindser torte, dobos torte, orange cheese, etc., we sample almost everything, and all are sinfully delicious.

Other than French cakes, local Nyonya kuih are arranged at the counter too, as what the theme says: East Meets West.
Make your own ice kacang and lace them with colourful condiments.
Grab some fresh fruits if there is still room in your stomach.
