Miraku Japanese Cuisine @ Paradigm Mall (Invited Review)

Miraku, a casual fine dining Japanese restaurant, is first opened in G Hotel Penang in the year of 2007. Good news to Japanese lovers, the second branch has now opened in Paradigm Mall, same row with Starbucks.

This newly opened Miraku is spacious, cozy with contemparary modern design. Other than the public dining area, there is also half private and private rooms to cater larger group of diner.

With experienced head chef from Japan, Miraku Paradigm Mall will continue to serve diners with the best Japanese delicacies, using fresh and quality ingredients.

 Namanori Tamgo ( RM13.00)
We felt glad to join a review at Miraku last Monday, and the meal started off with something special but still classic – Namanori Tamago, layered egg wrapped with fresh seaweed.  Warm. Soft. Good start.
San Chinmi (RM20.00)
Continued with the appetizer, San Chinmi. Armed with three dishes in one, this appetizer was worth a try. The first was the seasoned scallops, crunchy and a little spicy. Second was the cuttlefish seasoned with wasabi and spring onion. Third was the cuttlefish liver seasoned with squid ink. Raw, slippery and unique in taste. Like it or not, it depends on individual.
 Seasonal Fish (RM120.00)
This plate of sashimi was the highlight in Miraku. Aji, salmon, tuna, hirame, monk fish liver, shimi saba gathers in one plate, we enjoyed every single piece of this air flown goodness.
 Green Salad ( RM11.00- small, RM13.00- medium, RM18- large)
It is boring with just the munch of green salad, obviously. Add some taste to the salad with your choice of dressing at RM3.00- Wafu dressing, tomato dressing, sesame dressing and mayonaise. Tomato dressing, also the housemade special dressing, is our favourite. A little sourish but not overwhelmed, good choice to pair with the salad.
 Wagyu Toubanyaki (RM84.00)
Get the fun of do-it-yourself beef with Wagyu Toubanyaki. Enjoy the cracking and sizzling aroma before savouring the Mumbling 5th grade wagyu. Thin, juicy, tender, no burden.
 Fugu Karage
Fugu, or puffer fish, is highly celebrated fish in Japan, though it is highly toxic. The chef in Miraku took two years of training just to get a qualification to handle this pufferfish, for it will cause lethally poisonous if not properly prepared.  Thanks to the chef, we got the chance to try out Fugu Karage, a deep fried Fugu. Crispy beside, it was meaty and firm, far different from the soft texture that fish normally has.
 Ocean Roll (RM33.00)
Portion was huge, with salmon, tuna, avocado, crabmeat and cucumber rolled within seaweed rice roll, added with a twist of mayonaise and sesame.
Gindara Saikoyu (RM40.00)
For those who like fish but do not like it served raw ( like the girl), thie Gindara Saikoyu can be your choice. Lightly marinated and pan fried, this black cod fish with a  little charred surface was soft, fresh, almost melt in mouth. Excellent.
 Miso Soup (RM6.00)
Savoury soup gathered with the aroma and essence of fermented bean paste.
 Chawanmushi
Baby soft steamed egg with proper amount of ingredients hidden within. Simple, comfort food.
 Tororo Soba (RM13.00)
According to Japanese, sticky food is healthy, so same goes to this Tororo Soba, which has a sticky and gluey texture. The bowl of noodles was simple, with soba noodles served in light Bonito soup and topped with grated mounted yam and quail egg. Unique flavour, healthy sensation.
 Moraku Kami Nabe (RM36.00)
Cooked in a Japanese Style Petote Paper Hot Pot, this Moraku Kami Nabe was tummy warming, flavour brimming with generous amount of ingredients like tofu, needle mushrooms, clams, prawns, etc. Nourishing.
Wasabi Ice, Matcha Ice and Sesame Ice ( RM10 per scoop)
Time for dessert. We tried out the three classic ice cream trio in Japanese restaurant – The green tea ice cream, sesame ice cream and the wasabi ice cream. The girl liked the wasabi ice cream most, while the boy still hold on his all time favourite- the green tea flavour. Both were equally smooth and delicate, but we found the sesame flavour amongst the best, for it was very fragrance from the self-grind sesame.
 Sweet Cheese Tofu (RM8.00)
We happily indulged into the last dessert that night – a smooth, creamy, and cheesy cheese tofu drenched with a bed of tangy berry sauce, a more than lovely dessert.
