Youmiqi Shun De Cuisine 有米气顺德料理 @ Jalan Yap Kwan Seng KL

Due to unforseen reason, Youmiqi at Jalan Yap Kwan Seng is now closed. Patrons can continue to visit Youmiqi at Jalan Klang Lama (Old Klang Road ) to enjoy their delicious Shun De cuisine.

Youmiqi Shun De Cuisine Seafood Restaurant有米气顺德料理  started in Old Klang Road, slowly gainning fame for their unique, one of its kind Shun De cuisine which is rarely found in KL and Klang Valley.

Youmiqi Jalan Yap Kwan Seng, KL is opened following the success and great feedback from customers in Old Klang Road debut restaurant. Taking over the former location of themed-cafe Fullhouse, Youmiqi thoughtfully transformed this two-storeys bungalow house from fairy tale white into stylish black exterior.

The restaurant is divided into two sections, where ground floor is for homey, casual dining while the upper floor is more grandeur, equipped with separate dining rooms for private group dining.

Youmiqi pays homage to Shun De Cuisine, one of the major Cantonese cuisines created during Ming Dynasty. Most Cantonese chefs are originated from Shun De, or learn from Shun De Chefs. Hence, Shun De chefs are highly respected, undoubtly arm with impeccable cooking skills. Diners in Youmiqi are lucky, as the Youmiqi’s kitchen team are lead by reputable, experienced Head Chef from Shun De.

Each table at Youmiqi is installed with gas stove, not for BBQ nor grilling fun, but the place to prepare Youmiqi’s four main dishes (有米氣四大菜), namely Master Chef Flaming Fish 太古火焰魚,Shun De Braised Live Seafood in Wok 順德海鮮悶鍋, Sauna Dish桑拿蒸菜, and congee 養生粥. These four dishes will be cooked in front of all diners, allowing diners to witness the whole process while enjoying the aroma permeated before indulge in. This is recognized as “tang zuo” 堂做.

Master Chef Flaming Fish 太古火焰魚

This signature dish is special creation from Shun De Chef, using bright hot flames to exude the best flavours of each ingredients. Ingredients such as prawns, fish, clams are first drop into a huge wok, followed by flavourful stock and wine made from Youmiqi secret recipes.

Wok is then covered up, with flames lighted up around the wok. Heat induced from the bottom and sides of the wok keeps all ingredients well heated through, fortifying flavours of concentrated broth to deeply infused into fish, prawns and clams.

We love the Sturgeon Fish 尋龍魚, moist and mellow soft, enveloped with lots of gelatineous touch, the omega goodness.

Shun De Sashimi 順德刺身
Due to the location of Shun De, river water delicacies play a prominent role in Shun De cuisine. These freshwater breeds are prepared in many methods, interestingly, including sashimi.

You do not need extra expensive ingredients to churn out a good dish. Fresh, quality ingredients with the correct preparation will make the dish delectable. Youmiqi takes this as the key, uses one of the cheapest freshwater Tilapia fish (非洲魚)you can get in the market and fresh cut them into sashimi, tossed with onions, ginger, garlic and carrot.

The end result is unexpectedly great. Very much like tucking into Chinese New Year Yee Sang on ordinary days. Mouthful of crunchiness, and the sashimi delivers texture of jellyfish(海蜇).

Bones and fish meat left from sashimi cut will be cooked in a shallow pot with special sauce.

The Roasting Standing Ovation Chicken 順德棟企雞 RM88
Youmiqi calls it Dancing Chicken, as the chicken is in “standing” form from roasting till serving. Youmiqi uses village chicken, fully roasted in red hot charcoal oven to result in glossy crispy skin, meat gracefully locked with tenderness.

Chicken breast is generally known to be tough and dry, not a favourite for many. Youmiqi goes creative by shredding the chicken breast from Standing Chicken and dip into chicken stock. Soul of chicken- the Sweet, delicious essence and flavours of stock gathered from roasting process will seep into the meat, bringing new enjoyment for eating chicken breast.

Roasted Pork RM18/small
Trust us, Youmiqi Roasted Pork is awesome. Tempting in appearance, delicious in the palate. Crunchy skin set off by a layer of moist, fatty layer, coupled with succulent meat finished in a faint hint of saltiness.

Salt & Pepper Paddy Chicken (*Tian Ji) 椒鹽田雞 RM38.40
Tian ji deep-fried to golden brown, rendering crunchy bites with intense saltiness and mild spiciness. Addictive snack that goes well with a pint of beer.

Shrimp Dumpling 鮮蝦鍋貼餃 RM28

Crispy pancake? Nope. Turn it over and discover dumplings wrapped with chives, meat and whole shrimp full to the brim. Hard not to love this juicy and chewy parcel with crackling crispiness from the bottom layer.

Custard Oat Bun 金絲燕麥包 RM16 for 6/ RM29 for 12
The must-have dessert in Youmiqi, no matter how full you are by the end of the meal. We thought it will taste like usual custard bun, but it surprised us with sweet filling concocted from oat and maltose. Chewy and sticky sweet, accompanied by freshly baked, fluffy, pillow bun. Good!

Ginger Milk Pudding姜汁撞奶RM8
Summergirl highly recommends Youqmiqi’s Ginger Milk Pudding, or ginger milk curd. Served hot, this traditional Chinese dessert appears pudding-like, but is naturally set custard without using gelatine. Velvelty smooth, soft and instantly melt-in-the-mouth, leaving pleasant ginger fragrance.

NOTE: There is only 2 Youmiqi till the date the article is posted. Other restaurant in town with the same name and concept is not the original Youmiqi.
