SS2 Go Thai, Authentic Thai Street Food

Was about to visit Rekindle or Standing Theory at SS2 for coffee and brunch but we ended up at Go Thai SS2 for delicious, comfort Thai street food. Situated at a quieter corner of SS2 facing the main road, beside Piau Kee Seafood Shop and 2-minutes walking from the many durian stalls, location of Go Thai SS2 save us the hassle looking for parking. Ample of empty parking lots available especially during weekend lunch or dinner hours.

Menu in Go Thai SS2 is simple and straight forward, all clearly written on whiteboard. Do not expect a list of Thai restaurant dishes such as Thai Fish Cake, Thai Green Curry, Spicy Chilli Lemon Sauce Fish etc., as Go Thai SS2 focuses more on Thai street food pleasure. Signature choices go to the more popular Khao Kha Moo (Stewed Pork Leg Rice), Phad Kra Pao Moo (Minced Pork with Chilli and Thai Basil Leaves topped with Fried Egg), Koay Teow Nam Sai (Rice Noodles in Clear Pork Broth), Som Tom (Thai Papaya Salad), Moo Ping ( Thai BBQ Pork), Khao Niao (Thai Glutinous Rice) and more.

Order from menu-on-board, staffs are all friendly, ready all the time to take your orders (*wearing smile and very polite even when we asked for take away for our leftover Moo Ping). Food is reasonably priced, service is efficient, definitely an ideal place for quick meal.

Khao Kha Moo RM9.00

Go Thai SS2 welcomes diners with a large pot of stewerd pork leg at the entrance that tempts everyone to have a plate of this.

Pork meat braised till tenderly soft, set off by melt-in-mouth, gelatinous skin. Sauce is deeply flavoured with sweetness from meat, gracefully showered over plain white rice. Sided with halved braised egg and sour vegetables. Satisfying throughout, non-greasy till the last spoonful.

Phad Mee Korat RM9.00
Phad Mee Korat delivers a brand new flavours from Pad Thai we had back in many other Thai restaurants and Thai cafes in KL. Go Thai SS2 says that it is Thai Korat version. Hence we tasted more savoury than sweet; wet, soggy, gluey, similar to less-gravy Wan Dan Hor instead of dry. Noodles lends more chews, more sticky, loosely coated with egg. No trace of tofu, crushed peanuts. Lots of chicken chunks, chives and bean sprouts stirred fried together, lending light unplesant taste of bean sprout.

Moo Ping RM10/3sticks
Moo Ping, or Thai BBQ pork is decent, very meaty and chunky, brushed with a layer of glossy, smoky sweet BBQ sauce. But still couldn’t beat the Moo Ping we had back in Hua Hin Thailand. Good but with main dishes, the Moo Ping is too much for 2 persons to share, so it will be better if Go Thai SS2 allows individul stick order of this.

Thai Ice Milk Tea RM4.00
Not exactly memorable, overly sweet and lack of tea aroma.

Meal cost a total of RM32.00, no extra service charges or government tax. A must-visit cafe for fuss-free, authentic Thai Street Food in SS2.
