Bingsu Cafe @ Damansara Uptown, PJ : Premium Korean Dessert

Accidentally stumbled upon Bingsu Cafe at Damansara Uptown/ Damansara Utama, Petaling Jaya last week. Living up to its name, Bingsu Cafe serves premium Korean dessert -Bingsu, a type of sweet treat having shaved iced topped with ingredients such as berries, mango, chocolate, ice cream, etc. Think about Caffe Bene, pretty much similar, but we personally feel Bingsu Cafe version tastes much better.

Located at the same row with Epicuro, POKC, Rekindle coffee, and A Pie Thing which is further down the road, Bingsu Cafe is clearly more quiet compared to any of these cafes. Our visit was welcomed with an empty cafe where we started to regret stepping inside, but changed our mind entirely when we placed the first spoonful of Bingsu Cafe’s shaved ice into our mouth. We were so glad that we checked out their bingsu instead of walking away.

Triple Berries RM17.90

We shared a bowl of Bingsu Cafe Triple Berries, putting together milky shaved ice with strawberries, extra generous amount of fresh blueberries and crowned with big scoop of ice cream. The shave ice is surprisingly fine, mellow soft, coupled with pleasing milkiness.

Not sure if there is any sweetened milk or sugary sweet liquid added in, but spoonful is just at the right sweetness level, not trace of overly sweet as happened in Caffe Bene. Ice cream plays a role in delivering creaminess, while berries add a touch of tangy sourness, opening up our appetite to dig in more.

Apart from Triple Berries, Bingsu Cafe menu offers a varieties of flavours such as Durian Mango Bingsu, Strawberry Bingsu, Belgium Chocolate Bingsu, Blueberry Cheese Bingsu, Black Sesame Bingsu, Injeolmi Bingsu and Red Bean Bingsu. Sliced toast, thick toast, coffee, ice cream, sorbet and tea are also available. Durian Mango Bingsu is said to be their best seller, but since Summergirl doesn’t fancy durian, we have to let go trying this. Do let us know your experience with Malaysia King of Fruit x Korean shaved ice.

Comments: In short, Bingsu Cafe deserves better attention and crowd. You may rate RM17.90 for a bowl of bingsu as expensive. But considering the fine, quality shaved ice and plentiful amount of toppings, the price is still acceptable. Moreover, it is ideal to share between two persons.

Just, there is still room of improvement for their service. Staff ignorance level to customer in Bingsu Cafe is quite high. The cafe had no customer when we pushed the door in. There were two staffs at the counter, one inside counter, another beside the counter. We stood in front of the order counter for some time, but no one attended us. Staff outside the counter informed the staff inside the counter that “you got customer”, but the staff continued to have his back facing us. He was reminded for a few times, then only he turned and placed order for us, with not-so-friendly face. =.=||||
