Machi Pork Noodle 媽子面豬肉粉 @ Taman Bukit Anggerik, Cheras KL

Where to eat the best pork noodle soup in KL? Difficult question to answer, as “the best” is pretty subjective, especially when it comes to the broth. Some people like it thick and cloudy, some love their soup clear and mildly sweet, while some of them prefer in between. We too, have been constantly trying out pork noodles from various places in Klang Valley to list down few that suits our tastebud.

So we heard about Machi Pork Noodle, a stall in Taman Bukit Anggerik, Cheras KL that is worth visiting for their pork noodles. It is located right by the roadside, together with few other shops selling Thai food, dai chao, handmade pan mee, etc.. Parking wise, can get a space along the road, or across the street. More quiet neighbourhood area, with much better traffic compared to Taman Segar Cheras and Taman Yulek.

Zinc roofed and half-opened air, we expected Machi Pork Noodle would be stuffy and hot once walked in. Thankfully, there are big fans and mini air-con to ease out the heat. Still hot, but bearable. Afterall, we were not going to stay very long over a bowl of breakfast noodle.

Machi Noodle has very simple and focused menu. Two items – Pork Noodles (Zhu Yok Fan) or Curry Noodles (Curry Meen). Each bowl is reasonably priced at RM6.50 for small and RM7.50 or big. You can add-on ingredients like egg and bitterguard for a more satisfying meal, with additional chargers of course. Saw some of them posting “Ma Lat Meen” (Spicy Noodles) but didn’t see any on Machi Noodle menu board.

Summerkid had a bowl of small pork noodle soup with poached egg. Beautiful broth, the “in between” version. Natural sweetness from meat but not heavy, loaded with porky ingredients. Patrons can also opt for dry pork noodle, aka gon lou zhu yoke fun.

Since Summerkid wasn’t a fan of “gon lou meen”, she decided to try out their curry mee. Portion was big, topped with generous amount of bean sprouts, chicken, deep fried bean curd, and long beans. Not exactly up to our liking, as we always like our curry broth thicker and more flavourful. Machi Noodle ‘s curry mee is rather pale in taste, lack of spicy oomph.

We suggest to go for small bowl, unless you are really a big eater. Even Summerkid who came with a super hungry stomach felt full after finished 3/4 of the noodles. Needless to say, for Summergirl, she couldn’t even finished half. You can always have your noodles with Yong Tau Fu and Deep Fried Dumpling (RM1.30 per piece), which are highly recommended by Machi Noodle staff too.

In short, quite a decent place for pork noodle. We prefer Sun Sea Pork Noodle more actually, but this is good too if you like mild to medium thick broth. Extra points for friendly service and cheerful staffs.
