Xenri Japanese Cuisine @ Wisma Elken, Old Klang Road KL

Xenri Japanese Cuisine, the award-winning restaurant at Wisma Elken, Old Klang Road KL has impressed many diners with their fine, high quality food in a comfortable, modern Zen. The restaurant is reaching their 13th year in Malaysia this year, and glad that it still proudly recognized as one of the best Japanese restaurants in KL

Seared Bluefin Tuna and Avocado in Grapefruit
Coated with healthy Chia seeds, Bluefin Tuna is gently seared to maintain its juiciness. This dish is served with diced buttery avocado and chef’s signature Yuzu dressing.

Snow Crab Avocado Sphere

To celebrates this 13th anniversary, Xenri Japanese Cuisine will be having special Kaiseki menu, themed Kaiseki Artistry. Inspired by centuries-old fine dining treats from Kyoto, Xenri promises to offer memorable gastronomy experience through medleys of textures, flavours and style, putting together core essence of Kaiseki with modern touches.

Pen-Shell Carpaccio with Organic Apple Dressing

Kaiseki dining experience is served in an orderly manner, begin with appetizer, sashimi, soup or steamed dish, seafood, meat and finally dessert. This multi-course menu consists of up to nine courses, or more, depends on the price. At Xenri, from now till 30th June 2016, receive complimentary sake for every Kaiseki set RM230++ per pax.

Aburi Hokkaido Mukimi Hotate

Amongst the courses at Xenri Japanese Cuisine, Aburi Hokkaido Mukimi Hotate, or Seared Hokkaido Diver Scallop with Purple Sea Urchin Glace, is one of the most loved dishes. Traditionally served raw, chef at Xenri creates non-raw version using premium ingredients with spices, slow cooked to result in succulent seared scallop, served with crunchy Tatami Iwashi  for contrasting textures, plus a pleasing, creamy sea urchin glace in beautiful yellow.

Chirimen Jyako Houba Meshi

Houba Meshi, another dish in Xenri Kaiseki set that receives high praises from customers. It looks similar to our Chinese dumpling, but whole lot difference for the taste. Wrapped within the Houba leaf imported from Japan is a bed of rice, steamed to the right timing with sansho, a type of pepper which is also brought in from Japan. Looks simple, but a skill-needed-to-make-it-perfect-dish in Japanese cuisine.

Poached Black Cod with Chrysanthemum Leaf

The above are the two popular dishes in Xenri but armed with a Group Head Chef, Mr. Andrew Yeoh, who has over 30 years of culinary experience in Japanese cuisine, expect more than that from your Kaiseki Artistry. Every dish that sends to your table carries suprise.

Sous Vide Wagyu Rikyuyaki

In Xenri Kaiseki, no menu is the menu. Dishes served rely on the freshest ingredients, handpicked and creatively paired to get the best flavours possible for each customer, in exquisite plating. All food here is free from MSG, no artificial colourings, no preservatives, and uses pure H2O purified by RO system.

We were glad to be able to review few items from Xenri Kaiseki Artistry menu. A 6-course set, presenting Aburi Hokkaido Mukimi Hotate, Poached Masu with Smoked Apple Wood Chips, Wild Mushroom Soup with Cheese Dumpling, Slow Cooked French Melitque Beef, Chirimen Jyako Houba Meshi and Miso Cheese Cake dessert.

Kama Toro Arimani

Our favourite goes to Slow Cooked French Melitque Beef. Summergirl isn’t a beef person but she claimed that this was really delicious, especially the tenderness that delivered chews, but rubbery. Other beef dishes that chef has created for his Kaiseki menu includes Sous Vide Wagyu Rikyuyaki and Kama Toro Arimani. For seafood, Poached Masu with Smoked Apple Wood Chips deserved double thumbs up. Definitely a skillfully poached fillet. Delicate, buttery throughout.

Smoked Duck Mousse
Marinated for 24 hours, the smoked duck breast is steamed with cream and seasoning and plated with Bainiku (red plum sauce) crackers.

Since Kaiseki dishes served are depends on freshest seasonal ingredients that chef can source, what served to diners are always a mystery, getting them to look forward to the next course. In short, definitely a highly recommended Japanese restaurant in Old Klang Road that offers affordable, superb Kaiseki menu. For diners prefers normal ala-carte menu, Xenri Japanese Cuisine has it all too.
