Wayne’s Cafe @ Sri Petaling KL: Of Roast Pork with Salted Caramel Coffee

Wayne’s Cafe, one of the few within the many cafes in Sri Petaling Kuala Lumpur that shines for its pork dishes, both Asian and Western style. Whether you are a pork lover, a cafe hopper who loves Instagram-worthy food, or a diner bringing family over for lunch and dinner, Wayne’s Cafe fits in well.

Visited the cafe with Summerkid’s family last weekend, and glad that it didn’t disappoint. It is located along the quiet street of Jalan Radin Bagus 6, opposite to The Shire Cafe. Cozy ambience with modern charm, a space that can fit about 30 pax. Not extraordinary spacious but sufficient to cater office crowd and residents staying nearby, as well as customers beyond the neighbourhood, like us.

Roast Pork RM25

The first thing that drives us to visit Wayne’s Cafe is their Roast Pork, which has gained much attention on social media since its opening in April. It reminds us about the roast pork roll served in one of the famous Hainanese shops in KL city, but more complete as a Western main course – rolled roast pork slices over a bed of vegetables, heaped with roasted halved potato, apple sauce and brown gravy.

Choon Kuen (Chinese Spring Roll) RM18

Of course, as we flipped through Wayne’s Cafe menu, few more noteworthy dishes were discovered besides Roast Pork. For example, Choon Kuen from the Small Bites section. They are using Zhu Mong Yau (Pork Fat Netting), the most traditional ingredient to wrap a Chinese spring roll, which has sadly, been replaced with beancurds in most restaurants nowadays.  Plus, the Choon Kuen is added with minimal amount of pork liver, that enhanced the overall flavours of the filling. Must try!

Fried Kwai Fa Mien RM15

Kwai Fah Mien, a dish that well-suit Summerkid’s mum who holds on “no rice” principal for years.  Mushroom, carrot, lettuce, prawns, cubed pork meat, onions, chopped garlic, egg all stir-fried together with noodles for myriad of flavours and textures. It may not have deep wok-hei like your char koay teow, more like a plate of comfort dish churned out from your mum’s kitchen. But that is the homemade taste that scores.

Wayne’s Burger (beef of pork patty) RM25

Definitely not the usual store-bought frozen burger patty. Freshly handmade, with coarsely minced meat, lightly seasoned, shaped into thick, round patty and pan fried. Stuffed within two buttered round bun with egg, cheese, fresh green, tomato, mushroom, served with a side of  salad or French fries. And yeah, open your mouth big, take a deep, satisfying bite of big burger.

Other highly recommended selections in Wayne’s Cafe includes Roast Pork Sandwich, Pork Meat Spaghetti Bolognese, Spaghetti Aglio Olio with Pork Bacon, Linguine Carbonara with Pork Bacon, Wayne’s Roast Chicken, and Golden Meatball. Other non-pork options like Prawn Fritters, Pan Seared Seabass, Chargrilled Lamb, Rib Eye Steak, Chicken Gorden Bleu, Grill Cajun Seabass Fillet, Wayne’s Golden Fried Chicken are equally good too.

Cappuccino RM10

Classic Hainanese Chicken Chop with coffee in beautiful latte art is made possible at Wayne’s Cafe. A cross between classic and young trend, allowing diners to enjoy the good old taste while sipping on cappuccino. Lavazza, the century old Italian coffee brand is used.

Wayne’s Signature Coffee RM11

Wayne’s Signature Coffee – salted caramel infused coffee. For those who are not into espresso-based beverage, you can have smoothies, milkshake, fresh juices, soda and tea.

Overall review: A decent cafe with food suitable for young and old with reasonable price. Delicious Hainanese Chicken Chop and Roast Pork; grandma taste Choon Kuen made from Zhu Mong Yau wrapper; Kwai Fa Mien that you don’t find everywhere. Planning to try out their cakes and desserts in next visit.
