Golden Thai Seafood Restaurant 王金正宗泰国餐 @ Jalan Ipoh KL

Golden Thai Seafood Restaurant 王金正宗泰国餐, a humble non-halal Thai restaurant located along Jalan Ipoh Kuala Lumpur, same row with famous midnight Mee Bon Dim Sum. The shop has been around for one year, serving authentic Thai food, mostly from Southern Thailand but you can also trace down several dishes from Northen Thai on the menu. In fact, the restaurant is planning to come out with more Thai food from the North in near future, adventurous taste. So get your tastebud ready.

Kerabu Noodle RM13

In the mean time, we focus only on more general Thai dishes. Tom yum, grilled fish, moo ping, claypot glass noodles are all covered during our dinner in Golden Thai Seafood Restaurant last week. Started with Kerabu Noodle – a refreshing appetizer with tangy dressing, blending in just right with all the ingredients including squid, glass noodles, toasted peanuts, chilli that sum up to multi-textures salad.

Fried Paku Pakis RM13

Fried Paku pakis tastes akin to our Chinese stir fried vegetable in Sambal Belacan with Drimp Shrimp and Minced Pork Paste. Flavourful, spicy base, goes well with rice.

White Tom Yum RM18

Most common but must order dish in every Thai restaurant. Golden Thai Seafood tom yum soup is more pronounced in sourness, not too spicy. Other soup option which is more interesting to choose from are Tom Yum Pork Leg Soup (RM28) and Gaeng Som Cha Om Kung/ Hot & Spicy soup with Prawns and Omelette (RM28)

Kapow Pork RM13

Kapow Pork, spicy enough to make you take a big gulp of water if you were not aware with the amount of chilli in it. But this is also how we like this dish. Syiok spicy kick, laced with aroma of basil herbs. Two bowls of white rice with this? No problem.

Thai Fried Chicken Wing RM13

Differ from Thai Fried Chicken Wing which is deep fried till crispy dry, Golden Thai Seafood Restaurant version is more like usual fried chicken. Battered and deep fried, still pipping hot when bite through with crunchy outer layer, juiciness of meat locked within.

Squid

BBQ Flying Fish market price

BBQ Flying Fish, a dish that is worth the waiting in Golden Thai Seafood Restaurant. Depends on the size of the fish, it takes about 30 to 45 minutes for the fish to get cooked. The kitchen will only start grilling the fish upon order to ensure the freshness, so it is suggested to call ahead for ordering and your dining time so that the kitchen can allocate better timing to avoid long wait.

BBQ Pork (4 sticks) RM13

We’ll come back for this. Our favourite Thai street food. Chunky, tender piece of pork skewers, grilled over charcoal till slightly burnt at the edges, basted with honey sweet sauce. Four sticks in one order, considered reasonable in price.

Gaeng Som Market Price

Delicious but not recommended for those who can’t take spicy. The dish appears like a whole fish sitting in a pool of chilli, despite the pale looking cream orange colour may give an impression “It should be OK. I think not so spicy and I can handle”. It doesn’t taste spicy at the first sip but gradually, the spiciness will come through. It is the extra spicy aftertaste that made us felt hard to handle.

Claypot Noodles with Prawns RM25

One of the very few dishes which is not spicy on our table that night. Hahaha. It was polished clean in a jiffy by everyone, probably it was served at the correct time to ease the spiciness from Gaeng Som we had. But this was not bad, generously topped with many prawns too.

In short, a decent restaurant for Thai food. Spiciness takes a major role in many of the dishes here and is more spicy than many other Thai restaurant. Therefore, suggest to order wisely, get a balance of spicy and non-spicy food. Wash down with Thai Milk Tea, Soya Bean, Betagen (0% fat cultured milk), all imported from Thailand.
