Pak Loh Chiu Chow Lunch Menu @ Starhill Gallery, Bukit Bintang KL

May 23, 2017 by summerkid_summergirl

It has been a while since we last visited Pak Loh Chiu Chow Restaurant 百樂潮州酒樓 at Feast Village, Starhill Gallery, Bukit Bintang Kuala Lumpur, our favourite dining destination for authentic Chew Chou dishes. Glad to be back again last week to sample their newly launched set lunch menu, as well as few highlights from ala-carte menu.

Originated from Hong Kong, Pak Loh Chiu Chow is prides from their “qiu zhou” dishes, or 潮州菜 in Chinese. Slow-braised Goose, Braised Pork Belly, Double-boiled Pork Trip with Pepper and Salted Vegetables Soup, Oyster Rice Porridge, Braised Pork Belly with Preserved Moi Choy and so forth – these are some of the must-try dishes when eating in this restaurant.

Slow-braised Goose with Pork Fillet, Pork Intestine, Pig’s Ear, Egg and Bean Curd 鹵水鵝拼盤 RM45/small, RM80/regular

However, during lunch break, you are likely to give this place a skip ifyou  do not have the luxury to “wait and dine”. Now you may put this thought aside. Pak Loh Chiu Chou has recently sum up a good selections of dishes that are meant to fit in “quick and delicious” category. These dishes can be served in a jiffy, minimize your waiting time yet allowing you to indulge into excellent Chiu Chow food.

Honey Barbecued Pork 明火叉燒 RM40

First is Honey Barbecued Pork, something that you shouldn’t miss out, whether you are on a quick lunch or “slow” dinner. A little differ from local version with burnt aroma and caramelized edges, Pak Loh Qiu Chow version emphasis more on moist, fatty belly meat laced with pleasing honey sweetness.

Braised Spring Chicken Stuffed with Glutinous Rice, Garlic Ginger and Straw Mushrooms 蘭花菌煀姜米春雞 RM45

IMG_6644

Hollowed spring chicken stuffed to the brim with glutinous rice pre-stir fried with ham, dried shrimps and ginger, then braised for hours until everything turned tender soft. Really love the glutinous rice fully absorbed with flavours of braised sauce, plus sweet essence released from meat.

Double-boiled Pork Tripe with Pepper and Salted Vegetables 胡椒鹹菜燉豬肚湯 RM25

Double-boiled Pork Tripe with Pepper and Salted Vegetables here reminds Summergirl about the pepper soup her mum used to cook at home. Liberal amount of smashed pepper that give real good spicy, peppery kick, laced with mild saltiness from salted vegetables, so soothing yet “gao mei” (*enough flavour).

IMG_6636

Pomfret Rice Porridge 鯧魚片泡粥 RM45

Porridge like rice soaked in soup – Something that is really “qiu chow” style. Chef told that there are red snapper, seabass, grouper fish, and pomfret, 4 types of fish fillet in a bowl of porridge that set you on full enjoyment.

Fried Rice with Barbecued Pork, Prawns and Seasonal Vegetables 港式揚州炒飯 RM35

IMG_6618

For diners who prefer single plate, check out 6 types of rice and noodles set lunch, priced from RM35 onwards. Each set comes with Roasted Duck with Butterfly Bun, main course of your choice, fruits and juice.

La Mian Soup with Bacon and Seasonal Vegetable 煙肉湯拉麵 RM35

IMG_6633

Ramen immersed in a bed of flavourful, cloudy white broth, topped with seasonable vegetables and bacon slices. Chef mentioned that the whitish colour is resulted from the boiling of chicken and pork bone stock under high heat, gathering all the flavours and goodness for a good stock base for this ramen.

IMG_6622

Lemon Chicken Chop with Rice and Seasonal Vegetable 檸檬雞扒飯 RM35

Deep fried chicken chop dressed in lemon sauce, a more straight forward dish that we didn’t put any expectation on it, but surprised us with  thick chunks of tender meat.

IMG_6625

Stir Fried La Mian with Pork and Seasonal Vegetable 乾炒豬頸肉拉麵 RM35

Pork neck slices are used in this stir fried noodles, distinguish itself from the tough and dry pork slices we get in many “dai chow” stall. Not too bad overall, better if it could be less oily.

IMG_6657

Rice with Braised Pork Belly with Preserved Mui Choy and Seasonal Vegetable 梅菜扣肉飯 RM45

Rice with Braised Pork Belly with Preserved Mui Choy and Seasonal Vegetable easily become Summerkid’s favourite. Anything with braised pork is good hahaha. A dish that goes well with white rice.

IMG_6664

Rice with Baked Sweet and Sour Spare Ribs and Seasonal Vegetable 糖醋骨飯 RM45

Another favourite of Summerkid. Spare ribs thickly coated with sweet and sour sauce. Guess we would love to have it with beer if we were to order this during dinner time in our next visit. Ideal for diners who prefer this dish on sweeter side.

Stir Fried Kailan with Fresh Lily Bulb and Halibut Fish 方魚百合炒蘭片 RM40

Other than this 6 set meals and ala-carte dishes highlighted, there are more to choose from Pak Loh Qiu Chow lunch menu, such as Poache Chicken with Ginger and Spring Onion (RM40), Stir-Fried Chicken with Chinese Spices and Spring Onion (RM30), Stir Fried Kailan with Fresh Lily Build and Halibut Fish (RM40), Chiu Chow Fried Noodles with Shredded pork and Prawns (RM25), Beancurd with Minced Chicken in Claypot (RM35) and more.
