Bavarian House @ Section 17, Petaling Jaya

Established since 1997, Bavarian Bierhaus is no longer a stranger to pork lovers. They used to have branches in Changkat Bukit Bintang, The Curve, UOA II, etc., building their name through porkylicious German cuisines and good beers. Currently, there are two new Bavarian restaurants with similar concept around the town, which located in Jaya One and Section 17. The one is Section 17 is fairly new, named Bavarian House and housed in a shop row facing a quiet neighbourhood, same row with Soleil Restaurant.

This brand new restaurant emphasises on cozy environment, having dark wooden furnitures and comfy cushion chair, hue lightings, soft background music, red-pink wall and huge paintings, bringing a cross between modern contemporary and vintage 80’s designs. Diners can choose to sit outdoor, long bar table with high chairs or indoor seatings, lay back and relax for a casual meal. We went there last week for a satisfying German meal, and highly recommend the pork ribs and signature pork knuckle.

Ceasar Salad (RM19.00)
The porky feast started mild with a plate of healthy Classic salad having Romaine lettuce tossed with bacon, crouton, hard boil egg, parmesan and Ceasar dressing. Pleasant in colours, great in texture.

Wild Mushroom Soup (RM18.00)
Continued on we had Wild Mushroom Soup, homemade from fresh assorted mushroom and cream to make swirls of creamy, flavourful, tummy warming soup.

Sausage Platter (RM85.00)

A huge platter combining 7 types of sausages- Farmer Bratwurst, Nuernberger, Pork Frankfurter, Thueringer, Emmenthaler, Hungarian and Chorizo served with grilled bacon, sauerkraut and potato salad. Each of them boasts with flavourfulness and carry its own texture from soft, firm to chewy, nothing but meaty and aromatic. Dipping was non essential but garlic mayo, habanera mayo and mustard sauce make good pairing.

Pork Sizzling (RM45.00)
Huge slab of pork steak on sizzling, lean cut but not dry, thanks to the shower of onion gravy that moisturized the meat. The platter went more plentiful with two pork frankfurter and served with saute potato and vegetables.

BBQ Pork Ribs (RM48.00)
One of the crowd pleaser that night. Arrived in a hearty portion, the array of ribs smelt so nice for its rich barbequed flavour. Meat was soft and moist, generously smothered with smoky BBQ sauce for sweet and savoury sensation. So finger licking good.

Pork Tenderloin (RM28.00)
Thick pieces of grilled pork thinly sliced and carefully arranged, colours added with red cabbage and mashed potato. Drizzled over with brown sauce, every munch of the meat was so flavourful, with juiciness retained.

Pork Knuckle (RM75.00)
The signature and MUST have in a Bavarian restaurant. Boiled for an hour with herbs to tenderize the meat and then roast to golden perfection, this all time favourite was a mix of crunchy crackling skin and moisture meat fully absorbed with flavours from the slow roast. Truly succulent.

Baked Pork Belly (RM28.00)
Pork belly seem to be the only let down that night. The skin was amazingly crunchy but the meat was rather tough and hard. Asking the staff why, as pork belly suppose to be fat, soft and moist, we were told that probably we were having the side cut. Understood, so no complains. Nevertheless, what’s noteworthy for this dish will be the creamy apple sauce that imparted a fruity flavour that surprisingly went well with the savoury meat.

Apple Strudel (RM16.00)
The meal ended with apple strudle, a marvellous dessert that continued to tickle the taste bud through its soft baked apple layers within warm crisp pastry, addded with a touch of cinammon and crowned with vanilla ice cream. A pleasant collision of warm and cold.
