Kontiki Restaurant is Federal Hotel Kuala Lumpur brand new dining space adjacant to the poolside. Kontiki Restaurant unveiling its unique revolution for Federal Hotels International on last year September, officially opened by Datuk Bandar Kuala Lumpur, YBhg Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal.
Located on Mezzanine floor of the hotel, Kontiki Restaurant highlights on modern contemporary design with classic Kontiti touch, together with magnificient view of the outdoor pool surounded by lush greenery and tree lights.
According to the interior designer, Jade Saw: “In those days, Kontiki is the name of raft used by the Norwegian explorer and writer Thor Heyerdahl in his 1947 expedition across the Pacific Ocean from South America to the Polynesian Islands. “
Hence, Kontiki Restaurant strives to create a space that lives up to its name, depicting the ocean- curves and colours reflecting the ocean, the sun with fisheing net well as fishing docks plus seafood and more.
There are two giant Tikis at the main entrance to welcome you to into comfortable seating. Blue container, corrugated claddings, cargo crates, steel, glavanized iron table top, raw concrete finish plus zinc wall with graffiti art are thoughtfully incorporated into the restaurant design.
Apart from the special Kontiki-inspired atmosphere, do not forget to experience international flavours and local delicacies to the full at Kontiki Restaurant. Choices may not be as extensive as you wish, but definitely sufficient to make you burp in satisfcation by the end of the buffet.
Everything is prepared from quality, fresh seasonal ingredients, from BBQ seafood to finest cuts of grilled meat; vegetables salad to cold cuts; wok-fried Chinese delights to Indian dishes; Nyonya kuih to French pastries, and more to go.
Begin the meal with salad. You can either tossed your own salad by combining lettuce, carrot, tomato, cucumber, onion with your choice of mayo, thousand island dressing; or scoop up chicken, beef salad, or coleslaw of the day.
Seafood on ice can easily draw your attention, with a section widely arranged with fresh boiled prawns, fresh oyster, scallop, baby lobster, and crab. Tobasco and lemon wedges are available for your spicy, zesty twist with these seafood.
Sushi Counter is not exactly memorable but no harm taking a piece or two of sashimi and sushi to kill the craving for Japanese food.
Chinese cuisine is one of the section that Kontiki Restaurant prides of, seeing that The Federal Hotels is armed with great, experienced Chinese chef all the time. Peking Duck, Pee Pa Duck, Roasted Chicken, Steamed Chicken are among the must have.
Ma Po Dau Fu, Brocolli with Egg Sauce, General Tso’s Chicken are the hot dishes offered during our visit. Continue with Pasta Vegetable, Braised Beef with Onion Jus, Salmon Jalrezi, Tomato with Basil Herb Soup from the Western counter.
Other local treats includes Ikan Goreng Serai, Mutton Rendang, Pajeri, Aloo Aur Bhindhi.
Kontiki Restaurant buffet dinner also features an additional BBQ Station laid with sumptuous fresh seafood, all barbecued upon order. Squid, prawns, baby lobster, chicken, lamb chop, chicken satay, beef satay.
Of all, the barbecued station is our favourite. All grilled items are surprisingly delicious. We helped ourselves to one after another order of their BBQ choices. Must Try!
Save some room for dessert. Chocolate Cake, pudding, ice kacang, cheese cake, Nyonya Kuih, cream puff, tiramisu, etc. all lined up beautifully at the dessert counter.
