Ichiban Boshi is one of the Japanese restaurant we visited most frequent when shopping in Pavilion KL. A mid-range restaurant with relaxed, cozy ambience, offering extensive selections of Japanese food on the menu, and most importantly, reasonable price.
Finally dropped by at their another branch in Publika Solaris Dutamas on one fine evening after work for de-stress dinner. Glad to know that Ichiban Boshi Publika has launched a Kushiyaki bar recently, grilling delicious meat and vegetables on skewers over hot flames.
Wide choices for their Kushiyaki – Yakitori Blackpeppers (Chicken Meat with Black Pepper Sauce, RM4.90), Bintoro Blackpepper (Butterfish with Black Pepper Sauce, RM5.90), Tebasaki Tara (Chicken Wings with Teriyaki Sauce, RM5.90), Bintoro Shio (Butter Fish with Sauce, RM5.90), Tabasai Shio (Chicken Wings with Salt, RM5.90), Surume Ika Shio (Squids with Salt, RM5.90)..
..Shishamo (Smelt Fishes with Salt, RM4.90), Yakitori Shio (Chicken Meat with Salt), Bintoro Tare (Butter Fishs with Teriyaki Sauce, RM5.90), Yakitori Tare (Chicken Meat with Teriyaki Sauce, RM4.90), Surume Ika Tare (Squids with Teriyaki Sauce, RM5.9)..
Diners can also enjoy assorted 6 kinds of skewers at RM29.90. We like Tori Vege Tare with Teriyaki Sauce the most, putting a balance between meat with juiciness of vegetables that carry a touch of char grilled smokiness.
Garlic Fried Rice RM9.90
Not use to having only skewers for lunch or dinner? Then add a bowl of Garlic Fried Rice for carbs.
Yaki Ika RM15.90
Differ from many other grilled squids which are usually juicy, plump, Ichiban Boshi Yaki Ika falls on chewier, drier side, a cross between dried squid and steamed squid. Drizzled with mayonnaise sauce and sprinkles of chili powder, this grilled squid deserves a place in light snack and beer food list.
Salmon Belly Shioyaki RM21.90
Highly recommended from Yakimono section. Our favourite dish in Ichiban Boshi Japanese Restaurant too. Thin layer of crispiness at the skin, laced with saltiness from shio, followed by memorable rich, fat, buttery flavours of salmon belly.
Asari Garlic Batayaki RM1.690
Sauteed clams with Garlic Butter, a dish similar to Chinese Stir Fried Clams with Chilli and Garlic, but the former is helmed with buttery goodness to please. Love the mushroom that stir fried along, enhanced with flavours of sauce while maintaining its natural sweetness. Be careful not to bite into the small but extra spicy chopped chilli. They are fiery hot.
Tori Curry Cheese Gozen RM29.90
If you came in Ichiban Boshi with a huge hungry stomach, go for their set meal. Definitely value for price, hearty portion with delicious main course and side dishes to complete. Our Tori Curry Cheese Gozen is only priced at RM29.90, having breaded fried chicken cutlet immersed in a bed of creamy, thick curry, topped with cheese.. of course.. for cheesiness that heighten up the flavours of this dish. Served along with erice, miso soup, appetizer, tempura and fruit.
Chicken Karaage RM27.90
Beary Inari RM14.90
Vroom Vroom.. here comes a set of kids meal. We picked Beary Inari once seeing the Inari Sushi decorated into cute, bear like. Happy combinations with bits of everything – Green coral lettuce, tamago block, cherry tomatoes, french fries, ebi tempura, deep fried tori karaage, and orange juice.
Green Tea Water Cake Ice Cream RM9.90
An adult and child friendly dish, thanks to its colourful presentation, The green colour jelly-like bottom layer is green tea collagen water cake, finished with homemade rice ball, ice cream and crushed peanut on top. We could barely taste the green tea, hence diners who are anticipated for a dessert heavily flavoured with green tea may be disappointed with this.
