Yu Noodle Cuisine Chinatown KL: Noodles with Shao Xing Hua Diao Wine

November 6, 2017 by summerkid_summergirl

GO Noodle House 有間麵館 has always been our favourite restaurant when comes to soup noodles. Their soup does magic, flavourful till the last drop yet we don’t feel thirsty afterwards. We recently came across another brand named Yu Noodle Cuisine 渔米面坊, which seems to share a very similar concept with GO Noodle House.

Browsing through the internet and blogs, we found most reviews that Yu Noodle Cuisine have are positive. Hence we don’t mind paying a visit and add another noodle shop into our must-eat list. ‘Coz why not?

Yu Noodle Cuisine has few branches in Klang Valley- Damansara Uptown PJ, Chinatown KL (*near Petaling Street) and Kuchai Lama. Had our lunch at Yu Noodle Cuisine Chinatown after cafe hopping at Jao Tim Jalan Sultan, the nearest store, just 5 minutes walk away.

Brisk business when we walked in around 12noon but no queue needed, as they have two levels of spacious, thoughtfully designed dining areas. Ordering is easy – Choose your soup base, meat ingredients and noodles types. Write them down on the order sheets placed on your table then pass to any of the staff. Add-on a basket or two of appetizers if you wanted to.

Food on Yu Noodle Cuisine menu easily reminds us about dishes in GO Noodle House. They too have a choice of “Mee Xian” (*thick rice vermicelli) and “Mee Hoon” (normal rice vermicelli), and choices like pork slices, bursting meatballs, squid balls, Fu Zhou Fish Balls for toppings.

Except that for spicy soup, Yu Noodle Cuisine serves tom yum. Plus they have more seafood toppings to go with, including Japanese scallops, grass prawns, clams, garupa fish fillet, etc..

Taste wise, we personally felt that the soup base was a little pale in taste, lack of depth. But thanks to the Shao Xing Hua Diao Wine, the overall flavours was enhanced. Yu Noodle Cuisine takes the score for this, as their Chinese wine is free flow – whole bottle of it on every table. You may add according to your liking. Unlike in GO Noodle House, where you need to top-up money for it.

While we don’t fancy the clear soup much, tom yum soup was surprisingly not bad. Spicy, sourish and appetizing. We had it in Mee Xian, but suggest to go with mee hoon. As it will probably taste better when your thin noodles absorb all the lovely flavours of tom yum.

On a side note, their dumpling is good! Huge, plump, generously filled with minced meat and chopped vegetables. Great with their special homemade chilli sauce.

For snacks, Fu Chok, Deep Fried Squid Ball, Fried Fish Cake, Crispy Fried Fish Skin, Deep Fried Fish Skin, Fried Sui Kao are on the list. Crispy Fried Fish Skin and Fu Chok are recommended.

Overall, we love the spicy tom yum noodles in Yu Noodle Cuisine. But for clear soup base, we till prefer GO Noodle House version. Price for both the brands are similar, within RM15. However if you pick their seafood toppings, it will be another story. More expensive. Like Japanese scallop noodles is over RM30.
