The Emperor Dim Sum Buffet @ Grand Dorsett Subang Hotel (Invited Review)

March 14, 2012 by summerkid_summergirl

Sometimes, we feel grateful living in Malaysia. We get to savor all kinds of delicacies from different races– nasi lemak, nasi kandar, roti canai, teh tarik, chicken rice etc. But there is still food that cannot be savored by Malays as they are non-Halal —- such as dim sum. In order for other races to taste the goodness of dim sum, The Emperor in Grand Dorsett Subang has introduced the Halal dim sum buffet at RM60++ per pax. At the same time, we Chinese can have a twist of taste, eating dim sum that stuffed with minced chicken instead of minced pork! It isn’t that bad huh?

The Emperor, a multi award winning restaurant, prides himself in serving traditional Halal Cantonese dim sum and ala carte dishes.
This restaurant is located on the Mezzanine Level of the hotel, and can cater up to 180 persons with four private dining rooms, so no worries if you are coming in a big group. Overlooking the beautiful landscaped swimming pool and marquis lawn, The Emperor not only satisfies your stomach with all kinds of Halal dim sum and ala carte dishes, but with nice view as well.

The dim sum chef, Mr. Ooi. My girl said he looks like one Hong Kong star but she still couldn’t tell me who is the star till now. =.=|||.

Deep Fried Dim Sum.

Cold Dishes.
Desserts.
Everyone busy eating, a signal that the dim sums are good!

From left in clockwise: Mini Egg Tart Custard, Deep-Fried Prawn Roll with Cheese, Deep-Fried Shrimp Dumpling with Chives, Deep-Fried Prawn Dumpling with Salad and Woh Tip.
(left) Steamed Mini Lotus Seed Paste Bun.
(right) Steamed Bun with BBQ Chicken – Chicken Char Siew Bao.
The Mini Lotus Seed Paste Bun is nice, with soft fluffy white bun shielding the lotus seed paste. Though without the guarding of pork, the chicken version char siew pao is nice and full flavored too. I can’t really differentiate a pork and chicken version if I wasn’t told in advance.
Steamed Chicken Wings.
Using chicken wings to replace the normal pai guat, the chicken meat is smooth, tender and nicely infused with the gravy.

(left) Steamed Prawn Dumplings with Coriander – Har Gau.
(right) Steamed Fish Ball with Garlic – Yu Mai.
Came pipping hot, the Har Gau skin is a tad too thick to my liking, and the prawn isn’t succulent enough. Steamed fish ball, on the other hand, is bouncy and sizeable. Not bad.

(left) Steamed Rice Rolls with Prawn and Chives Filling – Chee Cheong Fun.
(right) Steamed Seaweed Roll.
Steamed Phoenix Feet with Black Bean.

Porridge.
Craving for something hot and more filling? Have a bowl of porridge to warm up your stomach.
Szechuan Wanton Soup.
The wanton is smooth and slurpy, with minced chicken as the filling. However, it would taste better if the dumpling skin is thinner.

(left) Vermicelli with Shrimp.
(right) Deep Fried Fish with Soya Sauce.
Vermicelli with shrimp, I called it “vermicelli-type char kuey teow”. The mee is good, just one down side is the vermicelli is a little cold, causing the vermicelli turned hard and dry. The fish on the other hand, get my top vote as it is really delicious. Though being deep fried, the fish still maintaining a good value of juiciness and tenderness.

(left) Stir-Fried Ostrich with Black Bean Sauce.
(right) Stir Fried Tiger Prawn Spicy Sauce.

Stir fried tiger prawn came with very big tiger prawns and look so delicious. I can’t wait to fork one but I am that kind of person who can’t eat prawn without fork and spoon. Still wondering if I should have the prawn using chopsticks, the staffs there are initiative enough to provide us fork and knife in time without us asking for it. Good Service!

(left)Roasted Duck, (middle)Roasted Chicken Char Siew and (right)Roasted Chicken.
Instead of taking orders from outside, the kitchen roast the meat on their own using charcoal, hence there is not doubt in the freshness and aromaticness.

Chilled Longan with Sea Coconut Syrup, Chilled Mango Pudding, and Kwai Leng Gou.
I like the chilled longan with sea coconut syrup the most, as it is very refreshing, chilling and not too sweet.

All kinds of refreshing dessert.
Start with your own choice of steamed dim sums, fried dim sum, soups, porridge, and end with numerous kinds of pastries, fruits and desserts. Certainly a good choice for rewarding yourself fruitful breakfast or brunch during the weekends. Plus you can dine in a luxury hotel, no more sweating, no more waiting, no more shouting for you order.
