Eat Food Village @ Publika

May 10, 2012 by summerkid_summergirl

Since the opening of B.I.G. (Ben’s Independent Grocery) in Publika, my girl has wanted to step into the 50,000 square feet stores and dine in Ben’s General Food Stores, with fresh and dry goods, and all sorts of groceries stock up around her. And we made a trip to Publika last Sunday. But once she got into the car, she said: ” Suddenly feel like eating Chinese food.”..zzzzz. There she remembered the eat food village in Publika, and we ended up having Chinese food instead of her mushroom lasagna in Ben’s.
Eat food village welcomes diners with their Chinese vintage decorations and modern furnishing, having pieces of olden days paintings, calligraphy and posters hanging on the walls. Being a non-halal food court, eat food village brings in some famous eateries such as Sentul Ah Yap Hokkien Mee, Bukit Mertajam Yam Rice, Kin Kin Chilli Pan Mee, Ampang Loke Yun Chicken Rice, etc. under one roof.
I was pretty lost at what to order so I let my girl to decide what to eat, while I laid back and took a few photos of the environment. XD. She came back after a while with a set of yam rice + salty pork soup(RM9.90) from Bukit Mertajam Yam Rice stall. The set came with a bowl of yam rice, salty pork soup, a braised egg and a piece of bean curd. She also got a serving of my favourite lok bak(RM2.80/piece). What a sumptuous order.
The salty pork soup was pretty nice, with peppery and salty taste that made me went one sip after another sip.  There was a generous amount of pig’s innards and pork slices hidden beneath the soup, and I especially like the pork meatballs that was so huge and bouncy.
Yam rice was fluffy, flavour added when garnished with deep fried shallots. Too bad I found only two very small pieces of yam in my rice.
Braised egg and beancurd that came with the set.
We got a plate of hokkien mee from the Sentul Ah Yap Hokkien Mee stall as well. After several disappointed attempts in few famous Hokkien Mee shops, we turned skeptical with the taste of those so-called famous and long-queue-needed hokkein mee. Surprisingly the hokkien mee was not bad, with decent wok hei and quite flavourful.
