Fong Keow(Pottery) Bak Kut Teh @ Klang (Invited Review)

After the visit to Myung-Ga Korean Restaurant in Klang for Korean Food not long ago, I am back to the Town of Bak Kut Teh again, this time really coming for bak kut teh. And my destination to fulfill my craving for bak kut teh is Fong Keow(Pottery) Bak Kut Teh Restaurant. Fong Keow is located at the corner of a shop lot, with a few bak kut teh shops locating just a stone throw away. However, Fong Keow Bak Kut Teh is doing good, and the shop is crowded with customers during weekends especially.
Fong Keow Bak Kut Teh (RM11.50)
Star of the day, and of course the signature dish in Fong Keow. The soup base is not too thick, and not too dilluted as well, where I can taste a right balance of herbal taste and meat sweetness. Fong Keow Bak Kut Teh is very nice and suit my palate, for I don’t like my bak kut teh to be too thick and have a overwhelmed herbal taste until I can barely get the taste of the meat.

Fong Keow Dry Bak Kut Teh (RM13)
Dry Bak Kut Teh, a type of bak kut teh that is quite popular in recent years. Served in claypot, the meat is nicely infused with the taste of black sauce, soy sauce, herbs and spices. The gravy, though not much but is very heavy in taste though, good to have a bowl of rice to go with it.
Spring Roll (RM13)
I wouldn’t say this is the best spring roll, or loh bak I have tasted, because I have tried better ones in Penang and Taiping, but this is still considered as a decent one, for good loh bak is hardly available in Klang Valley.
Assam Sting Ray (RM15)
Spicy food is available everywhere in Malaysia, for example you get to order assam string ray in a bak kut teh shop. The Assam Sting Ray is not only meant to be spicy, but it also combines the sourness from tamarind and fragrance from other spices, making the dish so flavorful and appetizing.

Supreme Stock Drunken Clams (RM20)
Supreme Stock Drunken Clams is a little pale comparing to other dish, but it is prized for the freshness.
Nestum Mantis Prawn (RM18)
Looking at the food on the table, I feel like I am having a lunch or dinner feast. I am expecting just bak kut teh, but ended up they are also fish, clams, loh bak, etc. etc. Call them the co-star of bak kut teh, but they don’t really suit the role because each and every dish tastes so good, especially this Nestum Mantis Prawns. I have tried mantis prawns cooked using stir fried, fried, steamed, butter style before, but not Nestum-style. It is very crunchy, addictive, and the light aroma from the Nestum is pairing so well with the fried mantis prawn.

Twins Mushroom with Oyster (RM18)
I like this Twins Mushroom with Oyster, where Shitake mushroom and Shimeji mushroom is lightly saute with oyster sauce. A very simple but tasty dish.

Sauteed String Bean (RM15)
The saute string bean takes me away from the iceberg lettuce with soy sauce(玻璃生菜), which is the vegetable I come across most during bak kut teh.
