Toast Box @ One Utama

January 25, 2013 by summerkid_summergirl

Toast Box, is a cafe that brings in the traditional Nanyang coffee and reflection of coffee shops in the olden days of 60s and 70s, in a modern and warmth environment. It has foothold in Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Hong Kong, China and Malaysia, with great positive feedback from many on their coffee and toast. One of the Malaysia outlets is found at One Utama, 2nd Floor, few steps away from the MAC city.

Fame for traditional thick toast with special homemade spread like peanut thick toast, kaya & butter toast with soft boiled egg and coffee or milktea, we do not go for any of those during out lunch visit few weeks ago, for they are too light for late lunch. Instead, we go for their Asian delights, nasi lemak and curry laksa.

Nasi Lemak Special (RM6.90)

Knowing that he will not feel full by ordering the prepacked nasi lemak, the boy goes for the nasi lemak special, expecting to have rendang chicken or deep fried chicken with greater portion of rice and sambal.

It is a let down when the food comes. It is still the same prepacked nasi lemak, added with few miserable looking curry chicken wings. For taste, not too bad, but we will recommend you to go on roadside nasi lemak instead.

Curry Laksa (RM6.90)

Highly recommended on the menu, the curry laksa looks really promising too upon served to us. Orange reddish broth with generous amount of fish cake slices, bean sprout and shrimps topping a serving of short rice noodles, tempting, saliva dropping.

But a scoop into the broth turns the bowl of beautiful noodles into disappointing one. Though laden with richness of coconut milk, it falls short of taste in terms of spiciness and aroma of curry. Thanks to the stir-fried-till-fragrance minced dried shrimp, the noodles promotes a good bites of shrimpy taste.

Fish Cake (RM3.00)

We ordered a set of fish cake, to compensate the still-very-hungry-stomach due to the small portion of food.

Not so good on the first experience, hard to say whether we will go back and try out their real famous toast and coffee or not.
