We get to know about Chin Swee Vegetarian Restaurant (清水岩素食舘) from their first outlet in Chin Swee Caves Temple, Genting Highlands, but not aware that they have actually opened a branch down here at SS2, Petaling Jaya. The restaurant has been around for one year, serving wide range of vegetarian dishes. The restaurants not only focuses on catering meals for vegetarians, but also aims to promote a healthier diet among busy city people by encouraging them to have more vegetables, less meat, less oil, and MSG free food.

Chinese New Year is drawing near, instead of going on meaty meals from the first to fifthteenth day of this celebration, why not choose a few days and go vegetarian with your family, drop by at Chin Swee for a healthy vegetarian meal. Thanks to Chin Swee Vegetarian Restaurant, we had an enjoyable meal there last weekend.

Healthy Abalone Yee Shang 鱼生 (RM38-small; RM48-big)
We started off with lou sang, a colourful platter consist of pomelo, pickled raddish, shredded cabbage, shredded carrot, crackers, king mushroom and more, showered with oil and plum sauce then tossed high, symbolizing a better, prosperity year ahead.

Shark Fins with Crab Meat 蟹黄鱼翅 (RM38.80 per serving)
Continued with a tummy warming dish -vegetarian shark fin soup. The soup is served in individual portion at RM38.80 per serving, quite hearty in size so we recommend to order for sharing. Ingredients loaded with a touch of herbal flavour, very nourishing.

Xiang Chun Fried Rice 香椿炒饭 (RM12.80)
Xiang Chun Fried Rice has assorted vegetables, diced mock meat and chopped xiang chun leaves stir fried together. End result is not wok hei loaded but definitely worth a mention, for they add in Xiang Chun(香椿), an ingredient that you will rarely find elsewhere. They are those tiny green bits appear in the fried rice, and is a type of vegetables imported from China, available in spring season, good for clearing up the heat in body, as well as detoxifying.

Abalone mushroom with cream 生奶金片 (RM18.80-small; RM32.80-large)
A must order. You will love the crispy, addictive deep fried abalone mushroom coated with a layer of creamy, rich white cream, drizzle with chilli paddy for a spicy kick. A dish that will easily liken by young and old.

mixed-vegetables-curry-chin-swee-vegetarian-restaurant-ss2

Mixed Vegetables Curry 杂菜咖喱 (RM18.80-small; RM28.80-large)
Mixed Vegetables Curry is the signature dish Chin Swee. At the first sip of the gravy,a strong spiciness is felt running down the throat, with the fragrance of evaporated milk gradually develops later to tone down the spiciness. All vegetables like long beans, cabbage and bean curd has fully absorb the gravy, oozing out once butting through.

baked-mushroom-chin-swee-vegetarian-restaurant-ss2

Baked Mushroom 西式局鲜菇 (RM13.90-small; RM18.90-large)
Whole mushrooms come in very juicy bite without any unpleasant smell, thickly coated with thick brown gravy that carries a secret recipe inherited by the family. Both are outstanding individually, but at the same time pairs perfectly when sautéed together.

xiang-chun-beancurd-chin-swee-vegetarian-restaurant-ss2

Xiang Chun Beancurd 香椿豆腐干( RM18.80-small; RM28.80-large)
Very simple home cook dish that fares well. Deep fried to golden brown, the tofu is crispy outside, while the filling is so soft and almost melt in the mouth. Crowned over with a bed of sauce rendering a delicious flavour. One of our favourite dishes that night.

tian-qi-chai-chin-swee-vegetarian-restaurant-ss2

Tian Qi Chai 田七菜(RM18.80-small; RM28.80-large)
This is our first time having Tian Qi leaves, and we found it good. Lightly stir fried with wolfberries, this vegetable is best eaten pipping hot. It showcases a texture similar to fresh seaweed, a little slippery with a pale chewiness. Something new to us, but is awesome. Thanks to Chin Swee for introducing this special dish to us!

beancurd-sheet-with-mushroom-chin-swee-vegetarian-restaurant-ss2

Beancurd Sheet With Mushroom 豆包焖花菇(RM13.90-small; RM18.90-large)
A healthy and nutritious dish combining broccoli, mushroom and beancurd sheet stir fried in a thick brown gravy. Like the saucy coat on each item, goes well with rice yet not too oily as what we come across in many vegetarian restaurant. Nice.

Vegetarian food is not boring at all, in fact there are delicious with a lot interesting, healthy ingredients to be discovered. Xiang Chun (香椿)and Tian Qi leaves(田七菜) are among the examples! Try them out today.
