The heart shape mooncake represents the myth of The Old Man of the Moon (Yueh Lao Yeh 月老爺) who is believed to keep a book of records with the names of all newborns and their future partners. The oval shape mooncake denotes the legend of The Lady of the Moon (Chang Oh嫦娥) who stole and consumed an immortality pill from her husband the Great General Hou Yi. Lastly, the round shape mooncake alternatively symbolizes China;s revolt against Mongolian rule by sending hidden messages of conspiracy.
