Starz Kitchen 左麟右李 @ Pavilion KL: Hong Kong Wanton Noodles [CLOSED DOWN]

**Update as of July 2018: Starz Kitchen 左麟右李 has closed down at Pavilion KL

Starz Kitchen 左麟右李 is now opened at Pavilion KL Level 7 Dining Loft. Located between ROCKU Yakiniku Japanese Buffet and soon-to-open The Counter DIY Your Own Burger, Starz Kitchen, or more known as 左麟右李粥面小菜專門店, is a Hong Kong restaurant invested by two famous artists- Alan Tam 譚詠麟 & Hacken Lee 李克勤.

Can’t deny that having artists as “about us”, Starz Kitchen can earn better attention from the public. But this doesn’t mean that the restaurant can go easy with the quality of food, compromise with the authenticity. On the contrary, Starz Kitchen holds on the principle to promote some of the most famous Hong Kong delights to diners around South East Asia and certain countries in Asia, keeping the recipe as original as possible.

Starz Kitchen at Pavilion KL is the 8th outlet after their successful opening at Hong Kong, Macau, Shenzen and Shanghai. Crowned with the name of 粥面小菜專門店, which means a restaurant specializes in porridge, noodles and small plates, one can roughly guess that a visit to Starz Kitchen can never go wrong with a bowl of pipping hot, comforting bowl of soup noodles and porridge.

House Speciality Shrimp Wanton Noodles in Soup 蝦籽鮮蝦云吞面 (Small 細蓉 RM12.80/ Large 大蓉 RM16.80)

Visited Starz Kitchen last week and ordered Wanton Noodles in Soup without a second thought, as we have been missing Hong Kong Wanton Mee for long. Even though we knew that Starz Kitchen version will not be as good as the one we had back in Hong Kong, but at least a similar version to satisfy our craving in the meantime.

Glad that the wanton noodles is not too bad, and we like their thin, chewy, elastic noodle’s texture. The unpleasant alkaline taste however, still come through distinctly, further infused into the soup and making it less memorable.

Shrimp wantons are all hidden below the noodles, each generously wrapped with fresh, bouncy shrimp and meat. The entire bowl of noodles is richly enhanced with umami sweetness from Har Zi, like it or not, it is very personal.

Salted Lean Pork and Preserved Egg Congee 下火皮蛋瘦肉粥 RM13.80

Had a try on Starz Kitchen Salted Lean Pork and Preserved Egg Congee too. Porridge is smooth and thick in consistency, accompanied by salted lean pork and good amount of preserved egg. Decent and worth ordering, but not exactly fantastic.

BBQ Pork 厚切豚肉叉燒 RM25.00

Was rather greedy to taste more, so we went for a plate of roasted delight – BBQ Pork. 8 pieces of thickly sliced BBQ pork, dressed in a bed of savoury sweet brown gravy. Very meaty, lending lots of chews but just doesn’t reach our liking. A bit regret, should have go for BBQ Roasted Pork Belly instead.

Comments: Our meal at Starz Kitchen came up to a total of RM62++. Considered pricey for normal dinner but still acceptable. Service is good, despite slow and clumsy. Staffs took wrong order and piled up our total order from 2 to 4. Asking if we would come back again? Maybe, for their Roasted Goose which is said selling like hotcakes, but not so soon.
