Hawk & Fish at TTDI Kuala Lumpur houses one of the most celebrated designs that one can easily come across in many cafes and restaurants nowadays- shiny concrete walls, dark furnishing, yellow lighting. A first glance at this modern, stylish interior, we assume Western delights will be the highlights in Hawk & Fish. Yet, we are wrong.

Flipping through the menu of Hawk & Fish, we are surprise to see Bak Kut Teh (a type of popular Chinese herbal soup with pork meat) as their signature dish. Continue browsing on the food list, we find more local favourites such as char koay teow, mamak goreng, tomyum fried rice, etc.. Not lack of Western dishes too, including pork burger, fish & chips, salad, and pasta to meet the ambience of Hawk & Fish. In short, a cafe with brand new concept in TTDI to offer diners Local x Western x Chinese food.

Herbal Wine Chicken RM15

It has been some time since the last time we had Herbal Wine Chicken. Hawk & fish version is nourishing, light at the first sip, with flavours of Chinese wine and sweetness of chicken gradually developed in the palate as we have more. So good that Summerkid emptied the whole claypot of Rice Wine Chicken, from meat to soup.

Hawk & Fish Ancestral Original Bak Kut Teh RM15

Hawk & Fish Bak Kut Teh falls on mild side, not exactly the thick, dark colour version that we find in many Klang Bak Kut Teh. However, that’s the pale colour that makes the soup tastes clean, mildly tangled with complex aroma of herbs and spices. Easy to drink, not cloying.

Dry Style Bak Kut Teh is also available, straight from Uncle chee’s family recipe. Who is Uncle Chee by the way? If you are aware with the portrait stamped on wall, that’s him – The man who churns out potful of tummy warming, delicious Chinese Wine Chicken, Bak Kut Teh with the most authentic recipe passed down by the family.

Tongue Burner Char Koay Teow RM15
Hawk & Fish char koay teow may not meet the “wok hei” level that we want, but with a serving of homemade sambal, it turns the whole plate of noodles into flavourful, fiery hot goodness. Love spicy? Pour all the chilli sambal onto your char koay teow, tossed well and be ready for the tongue numbing, spicy kick. Comes with a drink and dessert at RM15.

Hawk Fish & Chips
Choose red snapper (RM30) for a more meaty bites, or dory fish(RM20) if you prefered soft, flaky fillet. Can’t tell which one is better, as both fares different textures. Using red snapper in fish & chips is an interesting try, as it calls for more chews, more filling.

Pork Burger Deluxe RM15
Thick, juicy pork patty locked with juiciness, sandwiched within two buttered, toasted bun with lettuce, cheese and tomato slices. One of the must try.

Hawk & Fish serves mixed rice, or “zap fan” for lunch too, hence office crowds around TTDI area will be more than happy to have an additional place for economic lunch. For those who wish to have proper ala-carte meal, Hawk & Fish all-day-menu are worth enjoying too.
