The Counter Malaysia @ Pavilion KL: Build Your Own Burger [CLOSED DOWN]

The Counter Malaysia: Custom Built Burgers has finally opened at Pavilion KL, Level 7 Dining Loft! This burger chain from US proves to be one of the most celebrated, much awaited opening in 2015, striving to raise another round of burger fever across the town. But this time, in the way you like – make your own burger.

In case you are not aware, The Counter is a burger restaurant which allows diners to customize their own burger by choosing burger bun, patties, cheeses, sauces and toppings they like.

Being recognized as a burger restaurant, can’t deny burgers take the limelight in The Counter Pavilion KL, but the possibility of creating over 300,000 types of burgers from ingredients offered will definitely take the crown. There are 5 types of patty, 12 types of cheese, 23 sauce, 31 normal toppings, 13 premium toppings, 6 burger bun to Build Your Own Burger!! Oh yes, time to explore!!!

STEP 1: Choose your burger patty

Start easy – beef, Hand-cut Ahi Tuna, turkey, 100% natural chicken breast, or housemade vegan veggie. Both beef and turkey in The Counter Burger Malaysia are Halal-certified. Then, choose to laid your patty on bun, or in Salad-style-in a bowl. For patty, you can get either 150g, 225g or 450g. Seems to be a more gimmick way instead of using small, medium and large for size classification. After all, it sounds more bombastic when you say : “I am eating 450g PATTY burger” than “ I am eating a BIG burger” .

STEP 2: Choose your cheese (Choose one, +RM3.00 for extra cheese)

Yellow American, Sharp Provolone, Savoury Swiss, Shredded Parmesan, Fresh Mozzarella, Horseadish Cheddar, Cheddar Cheese, Danish Blue Cheese, Soft-Ripened Brie, Gruylre, Greek Feta, Jalapeno Jack. Danish Blue Cheese is forever a no-no to us, so we went safe by choosing Mozzarella and Cheddar cheese for the half-melted cheesy sensation.

STEP 3: Choose your sauce (Choose one, +RM1.50 for extra sauce)

Mix and match gets harder when choices increase, especially sauces which can either enhanced the flavor of your burger, or vice versa. Red relish, Horseradish Aioli, Smoky Chipotle Aioli, Whole Grain Mustard, Apricot Sauce, Hot Wing Sauce, Spicy Sour Cream, Sweet Sriracha, Honey Dijon, Sesame Ginger Dressing, Sun-Dried Tomato Vinaigrette, Country Buttermilk Ranch, or Tangy Thousand Island dressing? Hard time…

STEP 4: Choose your toppings (Unlimited!!)

The most excited stage for us in The Counter where we can further pile up our burger with favourite toppings from common Sunny Side Up Egg, Hard Boiled Egg, Oven-Roasted Tomatoes, Sliced Red Onions, Spicy Pickles to interesting Crushed Peanuts, Housemade Garlic Croutons, Jicama, Quinoa, Onion Confits, Green Beans, and Dill Pickle Chips; as well as healthy Lettuce Blend, Alfalfa Sprouts, Organic Mixed Greens.

STEP 5: Choose your burger bun

Almost coming to the end of Building Your Own Burger at The Counter. Now, choose to sandwich all your ingredients between sourdough bun, multigrain bun, pretzel bun, ciabatta, English muffin, or Brioche style bun.

STEP 6: Choose your side

Afraid that your will still have stomach left half empty after gobbling down The Counter whole burger? The Counter hears you. Add another RM7 for side dishes such as Shoestring Fries (* MUST order. A burger meal is always incomplete without fries), Sweet Potato Fries, Coleslaw, Seasonal Grilled Corn, Side Salad, Quinoa Salad, Marinated Tomatoes and Two Grilled Vegetable Skewers.

We had 150g Beef Burger + Fresh Mozzarella + Signature Steak Sauce +Alfafa Sprouts + Oven Roasted Tomatoes + Sunny Side Up Egg at RM32.

Pretty pricey but considering that all beef patty in The Counter are freshly prepared, cooked to order, antibiotic free with no added hormones, proudly claimed as 100% naturally raised and humanely handled beef, there’s nothing much to complain.

Tried out also Salad Style In a Bowl by adding RM3.50 on top of the patty price. Our 100% natural chicken breast + Quinoa Salad + Cheddar Cheese + Hot Wing Sauce + Oven Roasted Tomatoes + Roasted Green Chiles + Homemade Garlic Croutons + Dried Cranberries + Sunny Side Up Egg.

While the beef burger is decent, juicy and meaty, we love their Salad in Bowl more. A hearty bowl full with colours, textures and balanced nutrients.

Homemade Garlic Croutons are good, airy crispy with garlicky goodness. Suggest to add on to your burgers, which we regretted for we didn’t do so.

If you were not interested to customize a burger, just go straight to the ready menu in The Counter which seems promising too. Grilled Cheese Trifecta Sandwich, Grilled Turkey Sandwich, Caesar Salad, etc.. Milkshakes are said to be good too, but we had only Coke Float which taste just all right.

In short, a dinner or lunch at The Counter is always fun, as you get more interaction with your “makan-mate” while deciding a patty should top with B sauce C veggie or D cheese; plus the excitement to devour in the burger you self-customize. One can choose to go healthy by taking vegan veggie, then add with more vegetable; or have a sinfully delicious burger by stacking a 450g patty with bacon and egg; or go adventurous by adding sweet and savoury sauce which somehow a mismatch entirely but who knows, it may turn out good and right to your palate.

One time is never enough, too much selections for various experiments. You can always come back to The Counter Burger for more, better mix and match. However, despite so, at a whopping price of over RM30 for burger can be a pain to the wallet, though The Counter is using premium ingredients for their burger. Fun to try, but not on frequent base though. Service is extra friendly, thumbs up.
