Beary Potter @ Connaught Avenue, Cheras : Pancake & Pottery

Beary Potter in Connaught Avenue , Cheras Kuala Lumpur (Beside Econsave Len Sen Cheras) , a studio cafe we discovered by coincidence after having lunch at Sauna Fish Seafood Restaurant which is just few doors away from the cafe. Secretly located above Ultimate Muay Thai Gym, we were surprised to see a full house in Beary Potter once pushing the door in, since the whole area seemed so quiet.

We managed to secure a table for four after few minutes, and staffs were attentive enough to bring us menu immediately, even though they are incredibly busy, a clear scene of short-handed. Beary Potter menu is pretty simple, 2 pages so far, started with a list of sweet and savoury food all having description started with pancake, pancake, pancake, pancake, and more pancake. Yeap, pancake takes the limelight here, priced within RM20.

For drinks, Beary Potter has no attempt to use neither the popular “black” for coffee like Americano and long black, “white” for cappuccino, flat white, latte; or magical potions title from the wizard world of Harry Potter. Instead, the cafe makes good use of their shop symbol and shop name, taking “Black Bear” to represent espresso, Americano; “Polar Bear” for coffee with milk; “Teddy Bear” for Mocha and Chocolate (oh well, we feel this is so matching), “Panda Bear” for tea and “Honey Bear” for Lemon Passion and Lemon Peach.

We tried out Beary Potter mocha, latte, cappuccino and sorry to say that, there’s still room of improvement for the coffee. Mocha was fine, but our cappuccino was very pale. We tasted only sweetness of milk, almost no trace of coffee flavour.

We shared a plate of Beary Potter Pancake Mango, having 3 or 4 pieces of freshly made pancakes stacking together, topped with mango cubes and vanilla ice cream, drizzled with blended mango sauce. Pancake is fluffy, a bit airy and spongy, better if could be more dense & chewy.

Other pancake selections in Beary Potter Cafe which look promising to us include Shrimp Burger (pancake served with shrimp, potato salad & garden salad), Marshmallow and Hershey’s ( pancakes topped with marshmallow and Hershey’s chocolate sauce) and Okonomiyaki ( pancakes served with sunny side up, katsuobushi and Okonomiyaki sauce).

Another thing that makes Beary Potter Studio Cafe noteworthy is their craft class. Half of the space is reserved for craft pottery classes, slab building one-day trial workshops, etc. Get the chance to learn basic skill of pottery, clay introduction on potter’s wheel, as well as basic skill for ceramic class (need pre-registration). In short, Beary Potter is a good place to enjoy pancake and coffee (though not superb), or learn to get your own handmade pottery!
