Stubborn Joe Cafe @ Dataran Prima, Petaling Jaya

Stubborn Joe Cafe, by far one of the coolest cafes in town, we have to say.

Located in Dataran Prima Petaling Jaya, Stubborn Joe Cafe offers more than just food and beverage for your dining pleasure. The entire place is a feast for eyes, right from the shop front till the restaurant’s end corner.

Being a first timer to Dataran Prima PJ, we had a hard time looking for Stubborn Joe Cafe, only managed to see it after taking few rounds in the area. Tips: look out for the shop with a wall of mini wooden stools decked up together.

“How to go in? No door?” We burst into laughter over our stupidity the next second after asking this question. Yeap, there is no proper door knob for Stubborn Joe Cafe, but you will see a row of old-fashion cups half stuffed to the door. Push/pull one of the cup handles, and get ready to WOW.

There is no other cafes like Stubborn Joe Cafe. Steel, wood, black, white? These are too mainstream. Stubborn Joe Cafe is a lot more creative for their interior, putting together art, design, architecture, science, engineering, culture to assemble a fantastic, stunning interior.

The cafe is thoughtfully designed, from the floor to the wall till ceiling. Floor tiles with alchemical elements, walls over-flow with architectural graphics and theories, exposed brick walls, shower head-style lamps, yellow zinc walls, etc.., every where in Stubborn Joe Cafe is photography worthy.

We love the wood manikin with movable limbs. There is one on each table, so cute that we have some fun twisting and turning their legs and hands while waiting for our food to arrive.

The cafe opens at 8AM, early enough to cater office crowds who wish to have a quick breakfast before burying their heads into mountain-high workloads.  Nasi Lemak, Mee Siam, Big Breakfast, Eggs on Toast, Sandwiches are ready for you to indulge in.

Fish Manchuria with Rice RM12.50

For lunch and early dinner, Stubborn Joe Cafe menu covers a varieties of Western and local delights. Wild Mushroom Soup, Seafood Tomato Broth, Chicken Chop with Rice/Fries, Cobia Fish Manchuria with Rice, Chicken Maryland with Rice/Fries, Fish & Chips are reasonably priced within RM15; while Spaghetti Aglio Olio, Marinara Spaghetti, Grilled Sirloin Steak, Cream Spaghetti cost below RM40.

Chicken Chop with Rice & Salad RM14.50

We arrived at Stubborn Joe Cafe just in time for their weekday set lunch, with FREE lemon tea for every poultry or fish dish. Add RM4 for Americano, RM2 for soft drink. Chicken Chop is alright, albeit the skin layer is a bit over-fried, tasted slightly burnt. Iced Lemon Tea is literally tasteless, but didn’t bother us much since it serves just as a drink to quench the thirst.

Cappuccino RM9.90

Stubborn Joe Cafe is prides for their coffee, using Catunambu, Spanish premium coffee. Savour them in cappuccino, flat white, latte, flavoured latte, mocha, affogato or espresso. Chocolate, tea, ice-blended, milk shakes, fresh juices are available for non-coffee drinkers.

Comments: Stubborn Joe Cafe is worth a visit for their unique environment. Service is fine, but not attentive enough. Food is OK, nothing much special, more ideal to cater working crowd in Dataran Prima and nearby offices. Parking is difficult for outsiders, as opened space are mostly reserved parking. We went to basement parking, which is expensive at RM2.50 per hour.
