Izakaya Kushi Raku at TTDI pays a total contrast in concept compared to Pickle & Fig Cafe located next door. While the later focuses on healthy food, nutritious smoothies, juices, coffee in cozy environment; the former on the other hand, calls for Japanese Izakaya-style ambiance best for drinking, tucking into freshly prepared kushiyaki.

A very classic design of Izakaya at Kushi Raku – bamboo walls, red lanterns make way at the storefront; customized wooden chairs and tables, sake bottles on shelves and opened-kitchen. Not a knick-knack overloaded place that will twist the restaurant ‘s concept. You roughly know what they have to offer by looking at the shop name and interior. Come for sake, whisky, beer, stay for delicious Japanese grilled skewers.

Love Izakaya Kushi Raku skewers. As usual, chicken wing is our must have but we discovered something better than just chicken wing here- Chicken Wing Stuffed with Rice. The flame, the heat allow gracious sweetness and juicy fat of meat to lend into the rice, making it a flavourful “wrap”.

Get a twist with this chewy, bouncy snail meat thickly dressed with cold, creamy sauce. Great munching off with beer as eating this alone can be cloying, the-very-mayo-feeling.

Even though hearty plate hot dishes aren’t the highlight in Kushi Raku but our try on Pork Curry Cutlet With Rice is surprisingly satisfying. Juicy, meaty pork cutlet jacketed with crispy breaded outer layer, laid on a bed of Japanese curry in mild spiciness and huge portion of rice.

Cold Soba RM13

Need noodles too? Izakaya Kushi Raku hears you. Not a long list, simple combination but good overall. Choose from Clear Soup Udon, Clear Soup Soba, Curry Udon with Chicken, Curry Soba with Chicken and Cold Soba.
