Lobbee @ Empire Damansara : Thai Lobster Tomyum Noodles

August 10, 2015 by summerkid_summergirl

Lobbee at Empire Damansara, a restaurant that connects flavours of Thai with discerning palate of Malaysians. As its tagline suggests – Thai connection. Here, patrons can indulge in popular Thai street food, as well as unique Thai delicacies that are much loved by Thais, but not widely introduced back here.

Quietly located at the Lower Ground Floor of Empire Damansara, Petaling Jaya, Lobbee can be considered a hidden gem but as their delicious Lobster Tom Yum noodles is spread by words of mouth, it is gladly seen full house during lunch and dinner.

It is much difficult to locate compare to Boat Noodle at Ground Floor or Japanese Toast Haraju Cube at First Floor. Lucky that we saw one of the staffs from Lobbee near to 7-11 , holding a huge card board written with the restaurant’s name. He was attentive enough to bring us down through staircases. Not sure if he would be there all the time to guide all customers, but we hope he will, because Lobbee is really hard to?track down especially for those who are not familiar with this building, like us.

Lobbee menu is pretty straightforward, with food named in English instead of Thai translation. Just, for certain dishes which are less common, such as Thai Peanut Tomyum Noodles, Noodles in Pink, Spicy Salmon Salad, Stir-Fried Flat Noodles with Chicken & Brown Squid, etc.., just may need to check out with staffs for further explanation. Other selections like Seafood Tomyum Fried Rice, Green Curry Fried Rice, Pad Thai, Fish Cake, probably won’t be a problem during ordering. Understood that Lobbee is still new, more time is needed to present a menu accompanied with food pictures.

Thai Squid Cake RM12

Thai Squid Cake, a starter which is more noteworthy compared to normal Thai fish cake. Both look same physically, crispy golden brown exterior but for the filling, beside bouncy fish paste, we get to munch on generously stuffed with squid that delivers more chews, more textures.

Thai Crab Cake RM13

Two crab shells enveloping crab meat fillings, topped with beaten egg and deep fried. We especially loved the egg nestled on top, crunchy, laden with eggy aroma.

Spicy Salmon Salad RM14

The salad appears with a bed of salmon fillet squares, quarter of fresh cabbage and raw long beans. As usual, we forked on the salmon first, and got tongue numbing with the extra sour & spicy dressing coated on it. We tried wrapping long beans, cabbage, salmon and eat all together, surprisingly, everything pairs well, sharp sourness toned down, balanced up by vegetable’s sweetness, chunkiness of cubed salmon. Good.

Combo Tomyum Noodles – Lobbee Combo RM98

Signature item in Lobbee. There’s three choices for the combo Tomyum Noodles – Scampi Combo (River Prawn, Squid, Mussels & Soft Boiled Egg/ RM46 for 2-3pax); Spiny Combo (Lobster, Salmon, Squid, Mussels & Soft Boiled Egg/ RM60 for 2-3 pax); Lobbee Combo (Lobster, King Crab Legs, Salmon, Squid, Mussels & Soft Boiled Egg/ RM98 for 3-4pax). Choose Thai Koay Teow, ?Thai Instant Noodles, Flat Noodles and Vermicelli Noodles.

For diners who wish to dig in slowly, suggest to have Thai Instant Noodles as your carbs base. We personally feel that vermicelli or flat noodles soak up the tasty soup pretty fast, but vice versa for instant noodles. It will be great to have some tomyum broth left to drink on after finishing the noodles, as it?is really nice – hot & sour with big bold flavours of herbs and spices, further heaped with lots of seafood. Not to forget, four halved egg with alluring, semi-solid egg yolk.

Thai Peanut Tomyum Noodles (Soup/Dry) RM13

Thai Peanut Tomyum Noodles, a different take on Thai favourite. Tossed together crushed peanuts, flat noodles, deep fried items to experience the multi-textures with a touch of spiciness. It is meant to be eaten dry, but if you couldn’t withstand the dryness, add few spoonful of soup served along according to your liking. Chilli flakes is also available, just add more, in case you need more fiery kick.
