Apple Dorm in Hong Kong: Ultimate Hostel for Backpackers!

Apple Dorm in Hong Kong: Ultimate hostel for backpackers!

Planning to go on more-than-a-month stay in Hong Kong for student exchange programs, business meetings or backpackers long vacation? Food. Accommodation. Transportation. The three main concerns come in.

IMG_8522

Where food is not the main issue, seeing that there’s endless food to indulge everywhere in Hong Kong, even rice bowl in 7-11 tastes good, and cheap. Travelling around the town isn’t the problem too, as you can get around with MTR, bus, ding ding tram, and taxi. Hence, “Where Should I Stay” is generally the bigger problem. Staying in Hong Kong hotel for more than a month will definitely cause a fortune. Even if lower-end hotel priced around 300HKD a day is chosen, the amount will come to soaring 9000HKD after a month. It is whopping expensive for average income persons like us!

Some readers have been asking us on this dilemma. Where to find cheap, clean and comfortable (*our accommodation 3C) hostel in Hong Kong? We stumbled up Apple Dorm 蘋果宿舍 this time in Hong Kong, and find it worth to review. Good location and most importantly, the rental starts from only HKD3000 per month, inclusive of water, electricity and management fee!

There’s currently 2 Apple Dorm. One in Sham Shui Po and another one in Sai Wan. Apple Dorm Sham Shui Po is about 5 minutes walk away from MTR Sham Shui Po station. A quick touring around the place we discover the dorm is just opposite to Dragon Centre, one of the largest shopping mall in the district.

Violaa! Means staying in Apple Dorm Sham Shui Po 深水埗蘋果宿舍 provide the convenience to stock up groceries at the mall’s Wellcome Supermart; kill your boring leisure time at their Sky Fantasia arcade game centre or ice skating rink; feed your tummy with delicacies from Kitchen Food Court, cafes, restaurants; and not to forget, shopping!! Of course, Apliu Street Flea Market, Cheung Sa Wan Clothes Market are nearby too for your electronics devices and clothes bargain pleasure.

For those who travel more often in Hong Kong island during your long staycation, suggest to go for Apple Dorm at Sai Wan 西環蘋果宿舍. Merely 3 minutes walk from Sai Ying Pun MTR 西營盘, the new extended MTR station for Hong Kong island line. Only 2 stations from Central MTR, the centralized station that connects to few other lines of Hong Kong MTR for transit.

Each room is about 50 sq. feet, with sharing pantry area, toilets & showers facilities that has 24 hours hot water provided. There will be once a week maid cleaning service, free Wi-Fi, fire protection system and CCTV for safety.

Space can be small, like what you see, the wall-to-wall bed. But glad that the bed is comfy. For loft room, bed is on higher tier. Tall size people may need to be careful with your head when you wake up. Or else, you may end up knocking the ceiling and have a painful bump.

Not too much of jumping around too, as the walkway is narrow. You don’t want to get hurt knocking to the walls, or cleaning up the mess from broken huge glass window. You can squat but don’t skip!

The best part of Apple Dorm is rooftop. Oh yeah, rooftop! Have been hearing a lot about Tin Toi (天台/rooftop) in Hong Kong TVB drama, where residents like to gather around in this place to chill, have beers, snacks and chit-chat all night long. Finally have the chance to step up there when we were in Apple Dorn Sai Wan. The view is so OMG pretty!

Breathtaking Harbour View! The sea, the skyline, the tall buildings, the breeze, sooooo nice! Why is there no such ‘Tin Toi’ back in our apartment in Kuala Lumpur? #cryariver.

Putting aside the mini & small sleeping space, which is expected for a Hong Kong dorm, the cleanliness, easy access to MTR station and cheap monthly rental are already enough to rate Apple Dorm as recommended hostel. Plus, you get to make new friends from different countries and celebrate special occasions with them!
