Peekaboo Cafe @ Esplanad Bukit Jalil KL : Peek-A-Boo! Totoro I See You!

November 1, 2015 by summerkid_summergirl

Peekaboo Coffee, a newly born cafe in this October at Arked Esplanad Bukit Jalil Kuala Lumpur, just two streets away from our favourite Fishee Coffee. Not a Peek-A-Boo! I see you! place but for great coffee fix and simple breakfast or brunch meal around the neighbourhood, Peekaboo Cafe is more than ideal.

Not much surprise for the major interior – concrete floorings, wooden furnishing and faux concrete finishes for the wall, a combination that reminds us the design in La Cafe Memoire and Fishee Coffee. But we do like the cafe’s logo that outlines a Totoro cartoon. So adorable.

Dining area near to the large window is clearly, the most photography-worthy space in Peekaboo Cafe. Ample of natural light flows through during day time; colourful square shaped decorative pieces adorning the wall; a cute Totoro plush toy quietly sit on the sofa; forming a cozy, mini living room-like corner.

Speaking about Peekaboo Coffee as Totoro theme cafe? It does shed some shadows but not exactly, as you don’t see Totoro everywhere, but only on their food order tag, food presentation and few Totoro toys to highlight the uniqueness of Peekaboo. Just nice. Not overwhelmed.

Teriyaki Chicken Pasta RM20

Savoury food on menu ranges from general selections like Sauteed Vege Pasta, Wild Mushroom Pasta, Teriyaki Chicken Spaghetti, Smoked Salmon Carbonara Pasta, Teriyaki Chicken Rice, Japanese Chicken Rice, Big Breakfast to more gimmick picks including Egg Benedict Waffle, Fried Chicken Waffle Sandwich; as well as a range of homemade waffles that Peekaboo Cafe prides at. All reasonably priced within RM25.

We visited during brunch hour, so decided to have Teriyaki Chicken Pasta, Classic Honey Waffle with Butter, Green Tea Latte and Cappuccino to complete. Teriyaki Chicken Pasta was OK, tender chicken but could do better with the pasta as the sauce didn’t seem to go well with the noodles.

Classic Honey Waffle with Butter RM10

Since Peekaboo Cafe highly recommends their own waffle, we picked the most basic version to try but sadly, it wasn’t up to our liking. The outer crust was crunchy, like eating Chinese New Year Traditional “Koay Ka Pek” biscuit. The inside was chewy, but not fluffy soft, akin to the dense texture of Bak Tong Gou.

Cappuccino RM9

We loved their coffee more than their food. Peekaboo Cafe features Hide & Seek Houseblend, and also Single Origin of the month. This month, coffee enthusiasts can enjoy exquisite Ethiopia, Natural Sidamo Guji and Columbia, Popayan Tierradentro coffee from their coffee bar.

Green Tea Latte RM10

For non-caffeine beverages, green tea latte, hot chocolate, tea are available too. Pair them with desserts, scone, ice cream, doughnut, cookies or macarons if you happened to drop by for teatime.

Comments: Good coffee.  Average food. Reasonable price. Service is normal.
