Dragon Centre at Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong : Shop & Play Like A Local !

Tsim Tha Tsui. Chung Wan. Sheung Wan. Jordan. Mong Kok. Yau Ma Tei. Tung Lo Wan. Can’t deny these are the more common, popular destinations for us when travelling to Hong Kong, seeing that major tourist attractions, iconic malls are centralized within these districts.

However, at times, we do feel like venturing into less-touristy places, blending ourselves to the daily life of locals. Walking down their local market streets, dining in traditional bing suts and shopping in locals’ favourite malls are some of the good options to start. This time in Hong Kong, we managed to cover Dragon Centre 西九龍中心, one of the largest shopping malls in Sham Shui Po, Western Kowloon Hong Kong.

Dragon Centre is an all-rounded shopping mall, complete with clothes shops, accessories shops, ice skating rink, arcade centre, cafes, restaurants, food court and supermart. Very much like a combination of Malaysia’s Sungei Wang and Times Square KL. Eat, play and shop till you drop here.

Plus, Dragon Centre Shopping Mall is conveniently located 5-minutes walk from Sham Shui Po MTR, merely two streets away from Apliu Street 鴨寮街 – the street packed with electronic devices and telecommunication products. Hence, travellers can arrange both places together for a half day trip to Sham Shui Po.

Total of 9 floors in Dragon Centre, so many things to discover. Besides familiar brands like Giordano, Baleno, Adidas, independent boutiques are not shadowed too, carrying outstanding products to shine.

Our favourite levels are level 5-7, which is Apple Mall 蘋果商場. Yeap, call it little mall within the huge mall haha.

Apple Mall in Dragon Centre Mall stretches out rows and rows of nail boutiques, massage centres, souvenir shops, stationary shops, toy shops, fashion stores, baking tools, charming cafes, etc.. In sum, a bit of everything. We bought some baking utensils and molds from Baking Jane (Apple Mall, Shop 7027A).

We squeezed with the crowds along the narrow walkway at Level 7, discovering cute stuffs. Spot that Gudetama notebooks! Gudetama stickers! Gudetama keychains! Hey lazy Mr. Egg why are you so cute!

D3 Gallery at level 7, right beside Dream Cafe is also another shop that worth spending some time, digging fashion treasure from Hong Kong young fashion designer.

D3 Gallery was formerly known as Fashion2Passion Gallery, and rebranded as D3 Gallery.  The store D3 Gallery provides a platform for Hong Kong local designers to promote their items, and constantly joining in D3 Dragon Centre fashion show or promotions to gain more exposure. In fact, the name of D3, which means Designer x Dream @ Dragon Centre has provided a strong sense of designers’ enthusiasm in pursuing their dreams in this industry. “I have a dream, I want to build my own brand and becoming famous designer”. #keepmoving

There are over 20 local designer brands in D3, namely XLiquid, Malu, Twifold K, Tele:Scope, Dark Chocolate, Celeste, 112 Mountainyam, Acapriccio., Bol.Ad.Shy, Seasoning, No Concept, just to name a few. Uniquely designed clothes, hats, bags, shoes brimming over the store, we could spend more than 2 hours here.

We then went to Sky Fantasia 奇趣天地, an arcade centre for all ages. The must-visit place in Dragon Centre. To us, this is definitely a good place to release stress, throwing heavy-like-rocks worries behind. We played like a kid in there and managed to earn over 800 tickets within 30 minutes together with one of our friends. Not too bad huh?

Hop around and tried our lucks on doll picking machines, coin games machines, basketball machines and more. Earn tickets and exchange with souvenirs as long as you meet the points required.

Not to forget, Dragon Centre is prides for their 17000K sqr. feet ice skating rink too. One price for whole day, very reasonable. From Monday to Friday, it costs only HKD50 if you went in before 1PM, and HKD55 if you went in after 1PM. For Weekends and Public Holidays, enjoy ice skating at only HKD65, all day.

We wish we could stay longer in Dragon Centre but due to tight schedule, we had to skip some of the levels. Will definitely visit this shopping mall again during future visit to Sham Shui Po Hong Kong!
