Gyukingu Japanese BBQ @ Desa Sri Hartamas: KL Best Yakiniku!

Gyukingu Japanese BBQ – Dining in this restaurant is more than just about sizzling of meat over hot flames. The enjoyment of savouring pieces of premium beef locked with satisfying juiciness, moist and fat are worthwhile, beyond your usual BBQ experience.

Gyukingu first started in Kota Damansara about 3 years ago, followed up by another branch in Desa Sri Hartamas KL later. Comparing to the nearby crowded street that houses popular eateries like Naughty Nuri, Mei by Fat Spoon, Steaks & Lobster, etc., location of Gyukingu Sri Hartamas is rather hidden, less commercialized. One can easily miss out this restaurant, especially during evening time. Look for Old Town White Coffee, Gyukingu is just right beside.

Traditional Japanese BBQ or Yakiniku has always been the highlight in Gyukingu Japanese Restaurant. Whether you are putting beef, lamb, pork or chicken on the grill, once tasted, you can tell that meat here is real good. All because the restaurant carefully selected their meat, with no compromise to the quality.

Saga Wagyu Sashimi RM148.40

Thanks to Cleansui Malaysia, we had the chance to visit Gyukingu Desa Sri Hartamas for a luxurious dinner last month. Began with Saga Wagyu Sashimi. Definitely a rare case for us to tuck into raw beef sashimi, as most Japanese restaurants in KL and Klang Valley only focus on raw fish sashimi. Pretty interesting texture, helmed with buttery goodness.

Saga Zabuton RM153.70/100g

Time for yakiniku! Never leave Gyukingu without ordering Saga Beef. The restaurant is prides for serving the finest brand of Wagyu beef, directly imported from Japan. Fine marbling, having fat blending well with lean meat to reach for a perfect tenderness, juiciness and natural sweetness of beef.

It was the most memorable meat we had that night. We can still picture the taste till now – Succulent once biting through, brimming with olive oil -like flavourful fat. Do not overcook the meat. Seal the outer layer, grilled for few minutes, save some room for the raw.

Special Beef Tongue / Jyou Tan Shio RM45.40

In case you wish to enjoy grill beef but not into Saga Beef, Gyukingu offers also a wide variety of beef like beef cube, beef short ribs, beef sirloin, boneless beef short ribs, beef with spring onion, beef tongue, ox tongue with spring onion and beef intestine. We personally like the Special Beef Tongue, which delivers more chews, though serves in thin slices.

Iberico Pork

Sakura Pork Belly RM18.90

Eating Saga Beef can be whopping expensive for some, but for pork,  you can order and grill them happily on all visits. Each portion like pork shoulder, pork belly, pork flank, pork liver, pork roll with spring onion, pork roll with enoki mushroom, are reasonably priced below RM20. A platter of Buta Moriawase ( pork shoulder, pork flank, pork belly, pork tongue) only cost you RM35.80.

 Angus Beef Sirloin RM35.90

Maison Saint AIX Rose 2014, Vina Real Crianza 2011

Pair your salt & pepper grilled meat with Maison Saint AIX, Rose 2014, while for Yakiniku Tare, have them with Vina Real Crianza 2011. These two wine flavours in Gyukingu are proudly brought by Straight Wine Company, a Southeast Asia’s leading wine importer, retailer and distributor.

Garlic Fried Rice RM9.30

Need carbs for more filling meal? A simple bowl of garlic fried rice is highly recommended. Never expect it to be so delicious, receiving high praises from everyone on dinner table. Well-separated, fluffy rice, flavours heighten with aroma from garlic and egg. Perhaps we would drop by one day for a quick meal on just garlic rice haha.

Gyoza RM12.70

Japanese Fried Chicken RM15.90

Spicy Fried Octopus RM17.00

Matcha Ice Cream Shiratama Anmitsu RM14.60

We ordered few more dishes to sample – Gyoza, Chicken Karaage, and Spicy Fried Octopus. Saw more dishes like noodles, hot pot and rice which are ideal for ala-carte individual serving. Will check out next time.

Saliva dropping? Already planning for a visit to Gyukingu? Remember to mention “Malaysian Flavours” to entitled for a 10% discount off the total bill +  FREE ice cream until 31st January 2016.
