Mini Hotel in Causeway Bay, Central and Stanley, Hong Kong

Understood that every inch of land in Hong Kong is as precious as gold, accommodation’s concerns come to be different when travelling to this country. Location and size are always in proportional to the price, probably more expensive for established hotel brands. During our first visit to Hong Kong, we spent a lot of time looking for a hotel that fits our budget, which possibly, below HKD600. We eventually settled down for a tiny hotel, but glad that it was clean and comfortable.

Therefore, this time in Hong Kong, we looked out for rooms which again – clean and comfortable, size of room will not be the first priority. Mini Hotel Hong Kong, clearly meets our requirement, and worth recommended to budget travellers. Mini Hotel is a hotel brand focuses on modern chic design, at the same time offering travellers a home away from home space at affordable price.

There are currently two Mini Hotel in Hong Kong island, which is Mini Hotel Central 中环迷你酒店 and Mini Hotel Causeway Bay 铜锣湾迷你酒店. Both hotels are situated along the more quiet alley in Causeway Bay and Central, away from the hustle and bustle of the city but as you walk out and cross few roads, within 5 minutes, you will be standing in the most happening streets of these two places. In other words, Mini Hotel Central and Mini Hotel Causeway Bay are strategically located, near to MTR, but resides on the more quiet location for peaceful stay with minimal street noise.

Mini Hotel Central is categorized into Solo Room, Mini Double Room and Smart Room, 196 rooms in total. We stayed for 2 nights at their Smart Room with City View. It is a room appears in all white, with great view of the city. Even though being mini, it is complete with essential toiletries, towels and devices like television, safety box, hair dryer and water boiler.

Spot the Nespresso espresso capsule in your room! Bring them downstairs and you can make your cup of coffee with the Nespresso machine ready at the lobby.

What makes Mini Hotel noteworthy is definitely the in-room handy phone. With this handphone, you can make local free calls, free IDD calls to 6 participated countries (including USA, UK, Taiwan, etc.) and have free online data service.

Ceiling-to-floor glass window, stretching out widely for the toilet and washroom. No blind or curtain to cover up, acts-in-the-bathroom are all “exposes” to your roommates. To be truth, we felt rather uncomfortable on this but it is just personal. Still fine for couples, but those travel for business reasons in pair, it is suggested to get separate rooms if you are particular with this transparent bathroom.

Shampoo, bath gel, body lotion, conditioner, tooth brush & toothpaste, shower cap, towels are all provided in Mini Hotel room.

The basin is small, which may be difficult while washing face but we find it rather cute and lives up as one of their “mini” elements.

Speaking about the lobby, Mini Hotel (s) have one of the best lobbies comparing to other boutique hotels in the same range. While Mini Hotel Central lobby offers a calm and cozy ambience, with ample of natural light flows through during daytime;

Mini Hotel Causeway Bay lobby on the other hand, is more spacious; highlights more lively elements; putting together furnishing in different textures and colours with many great framed artworks adorning the walls.

Mini Hotel Causeway Bay rooms are very similar to those Mini Hotel Central, but called as Solo, Classic Twins, Mini Double, Smart Queen, ranging from 80 to 120 square feet too. Hence travelers can pick to stay in Causeway Bay or Central depends on your convenience. No worries on the distance to MTR. The location is very good, just a short walk to transfer to other stations.

Good news, the “mini (s)” is venturing into Stanley (Chek Chue, 赤柱) , a favourite tourist attraction in South Coast of Hong Kong. It is called Mini Studio Stanley, located just beside Hong Kong Sea School, 3 minutes walk to Stanley-Causeway Bay bus stop and Welcome Supermart. Lobby is again, love at the first sight, surrounded by lush greenery. So pretty! How to not love?

Mini Studio has no lift, thus, be ready to carry your luggage to your room. You can always ask for assistant from staffs to help out, they are all friendly and helpful. We were actually exhausted by the time we reached Stanley, staffs automatically carried our stuffs to our room level. Appreciate. Thank you~~

Room is small as expected, but sufficient for short stay. A long corridor followed by all-white bed linen, white comforter white pillow, blending well to the white walls, white blinds, white fan. In short, everything white, creating a bright, minimalist space.

Look. The width of the walkway is just shoulder length. Our medium size luggage “ngam ngam hou” can be placed on the floor. Our friends, who carried a large size luggage, actually have to temporarily put it outside the room for convenience. Gentle reminder: plan your luggage size wisely if you wished to stay here.

All-in-one shampoo & bath gel, towels, toothbrush, coffee, tea, water boiler, hair dryer are well prepared in the room.

Due to the nature of the building, there may be some variations for different rooms but it doesn’t really matter to us, as long as it is clean and comfortable. Our toilet and bathroom are only half covered, hence you need to be careful when bathing to avoid waters from flowing out.

To us, all 3 Mini Hotels fit pretty well in both price and location. Mini Hotel Central is near to Lan Kwai Fong, great for night life; Mini Hotel Causeway Bay provides convenience for luxury shopping at Times Square Hong Kong, Hysan Place and many high-street brands; Mini Studio is noteworthy for relaxing escape in Stanley.
