Fancy Breakfast Club @ Bangsar KL: Not Your Usual Brunch Spot

February 21, 2016 by summerkid_summergirl

Fancy Breakfast Club Bangsar KL

Fancy Breakfast Club KL has made a comeback, with version 3.0 at Bangsar Jalan Telawi 2, located right above Sangkaya Coconut Ice Cream. Loyal customers from Fancy Breakfast Club 2.0 will surely be overjoyed, seeing that exciting dishes that promise a feast for the eyes and palates are now returned after FBC pulled the plug on their concept dining in Jalan Limau Purut Bangsar about a year ago.

In case you are not aware, Fancy Breakfast Club is famous for their pop-up underground dining, covering events and catering too. When it surfaces again, the location is no longer as “underground” as it used to be, but permanent in a more commercialized area blooming with eateries. Despite so, private concept dining atmosphere is still maintained, with “opened-to-public” walk-in available for weekday brunch and dinner (reservation needed for weekend brunch).

For reputation that Fancy Breakfast Club holds, we actually placed a high expectation during our visit there last weekend. Sadly to say, overall experience wasn’t really good, especially on customer service and food serving time management. Not saying that service is bad, but could be more attentive. Personally feels that FBC earns higher score on food presentation and charming, thoughtfully decorated environment.

Bottomless Appetizer

Fancy Breakfast Club Bangsar churns out ala-carte breakfast/brunch selections from Tuesday to Friday, putting together selections such as Make Your Own Breakfast Platter, Honey Mustard Chicken, Waffles with Berries & Chocolate Sauce, Smoked Salmon Clementine Fritters  on the menu, just to name a few.  For weekend brunch, FBC serves only 3-course Brunch Menu Set, priced at RM65/per person. Reservation is required to avoid disappointment.

Appetizer is free-flow, with handpicked antipasti served in sharing platter. Toasted charcoal bread, hummus, fresh cut fruits, berries, bacon wrap, jam and caramelized onion sauce. Request of second or third helpings were seen at almost every table, proven delicious.

For main course, Fancy Breakfast Club has prepared Millet Croquettes, Soyannaise & Wild Mushroom (cereal millet & cle sauce with cheese, soyannaise and wild mushroom dripped with truffle oil), Greek Meatloaf & Feta Cheese (ove-baked traditional ground meatloaf, barbecue style sauce with crumbled feta cheese), Salmon Ras El-Hanout with Cous Cous (pan-seared salmon with steamed couscous and pomegranate salad), Stuffed Chicken Roulade, Pumpkin Hash with Beef & Blood-Orange Relish for this weekend brunch menu.

Had Chocolate Cake with Crown Cookie as dessert. Beautiful presentation, taste not up to our liking as it was overly-sweet, with not much surprise from the chocolate cake. Better if it could be more chocolaty. Crown Cookie, not memorable at all. It is just, a cookie, in crown shape.

Drinks are free refill, with brewed black coffee/tea option.

Comment: Fancy Breakfast Club offers only one type of set menu during Sat & Sun, certainly narrow down the choices for weekend brunch lovers like us. Plus, a 3-course brunch took us almost 2 hours to finish. We waited for about half an hour after each course. Staff only came once to clear the antipasti, served the main course and never come back. Not sure if FBC is currently short-handed, seeing that there’s no standby staff in the dining area throughout our visit. We even had to walk to the kitchen and asked when we could have our dessert, then only they served us. We visited with full excitement, left with dismay. Can’t deny Fancy Breakfast Club has a great concept, thumbs up for dining area, but for service and food taste, room of improvement is needed.
