Dim Sum & Co @ Publika Solaris Dutamas: KL Pork Free Dim Sum [CLOSED DOWN]

July 11, 2016 by summerkid_summergirl

Update 13/7/16, Dim Sum & Co is permanently closed for now and will relocated to elsewhere

Dim Sum & Co Publika Solaris Dutamas

Dim Sum & Co Publika KL serves pork free dim sum while BeerFactory Xpress, which located in the same premise offers alcoholic drinks.

Dim Sum & Co and BeerFactory Xpress at Publika Solaris Dutamas KL – it seems to be a mismatch to put both under one roof, as the former reminds us about “food for breakfast” while the later, “drinks for chilling out at night”. But nowadays where you can buy Chinese dumpling even during Christmas, such dual-concept restaurant with interesting idea definitely worth getting some attention.

Plus, food in Dim Sum & Co is pork free. That said, different races can come come together and enjoy this Chinese favourite during breakfast, lunch and dinner. Paid a visit to the restaurant last Wednesday when we were in Publika, and was pretty surprised that dim sum here are real good!

Szechuan Dumpling 四川餃子RM8.90

From usual Siew Mai, Har Kau, Chee Cheong Fun, Loh Mai Gai, Salad Prawn Dumpling, Carrot Cake, Homemade Fish Ball to modern fusion dim sum such as Charcoal Egg Tart, Crispy Avocado Roll, Salted Egg Custard Charcoal Bun and chicken in Blanket, most of them score high, beyond expectation, and, reasonable price too.

Har Gau 晶瑩蝦餃皇 RM9.90

We started with Har Gau – chunky, fresh, juicy meat, wrapped in dumpling skin. Honestly, we wouldn’t know it is actually filled with chicken meat if weren’t told. So close to the non-halal version har gau, taste better than many KL dim sum shops. Good job chef!

Loh Mai Gai 糯米雞 RM7.90

Seafood Congee 海鮮粥 RM9.90

Normally, Summerkid will have only few spoonful of congee in a dim sum shop and keep his stomach space for other deep fried or steamed dim sum items. However, he finished the whole serving in Dim Sum & Co and nodded his approvals, saying that this is the version he likes – right consistency, a touch of saltiness and sweetness from seafood. *Clap hands*

Signature Charcoal Molten Bun 竹碳流沙包 RM8.90

Dim Sum & Co Publika Solaris Dutamas

We grew up being told by mum that we should have table manners, and do not play with our food. But this is highly encouraged in Dim Sum & Co, when you are eating their Signature Charcoal Molten Bun, aka the adorable Mr. Black – Arrived with eyes but no mouth. Add him a “mouth” by poking through the bun using fork or chopstick, observing yellowish, aromatic salted egg sauce oozing out!  Lau Sah Bao with a charming twist!

Homemade Fish Ball 家鄉自制魚賣 RM6.90
Homemade Fish Ball is fresh, bouncy, traditional homemade taste. Expect it will be better if stuffed into vegetables like brinjal, bitter guord, chilli or taufu, the Yong Tau Fu style, then dressed with oyster sauce based gravy.

Cheesy Chicken & Onion Puff 芝士洋蔥叉燒酥 RM8.90

Dim Sum & Co Publika Solaris Dutamas

Summergirl’s favourite. Charcoal puff pastry holding chicken and onion filling, capped with a layer of crumbly, cheesy topping. Pronounce cheesiness like Parmesan cheese powder topped over your pasta, in good balance with the saucy, flavourful filling.

Crispy Avocado Roll 龍須牛油果RM9.90

Dim Sum & Co Publika Solaris Dutamas

Must order in Dim Sum & Co. Even Summerkid who doesn’t eat avocado enjoyed this a lot. Sweet, creamy avocado puree that sheds a touch of similarity to pandan kaya puff filling, rolled with thin rice vermicelli and deep fried to golden brown. Crunchy, best eaten pipping hot.

Apart from dim sum, Dim Sum & Co menu offers also rice bowl, priced within RM15.90. Salted Fish Mushroom Chicken, Golden Salted Egg Chicken Rice Bowl, Herbal Chicken Rice Bowl, Braised Phoenix Claws Rice Bowl, and Marmite Chicken Rice Bowl. Have them in lunch set from 12PM – 2PM with Oriental Tea or Sera Merai.

Grab a pint of beer from The BeerFactory Xpress if you loved to. RM50 for 3 pints of Tiger Beer or RM60 for 3 pints of Guinness during their Happy Hour. A bite of dim sum, a sip of beer. Perfect food & drink matching that you don’t get in all places.
