Kokoro Japanese Restaurant @ Taman Segar, Cheras KL

November 1, 2016 by summerkid_summergirl

Kokoro Japanese Restaurant cheras

Kokoro Japanese Restaurant at Taman Segar Cheras, Kuala Lumpur – add this eatery to your food pocket list, and visit the next time you are in Cheras. It is located same row with Dragon Steamboat and Inside Scoop, a family Japanese restaurant that dishes out delicious Japanese food at affordable price. Everything prepared with heart, as the restaurant is named.

Sashi Salmon with Karashi Dressing RM18.90

Sashi Salmon with Karashi Dressing, a must have when in Kokoro. Raw salmon, Japanese marinated tomato, vegetables topped with white sesame, sit over a bed of miso-mustard sauce. An appetizing gravy that we enjoyed a lot, as it envelops a mixture of sweet, sour, salty, mild pungent flavours that pair well with each ingredients.

Sushi Tako RM10.90/2pcs
Sushi Hamachi RM13.90/2pcs
Sushi Salmon RM8.90/2pcs

Nigiri, sashimi, temaki and maki list in Kokoro do not span over few pages, but sufficient enough to fulfill your sushi & sashimi craving. Tako, hamachi, salmon, ebiko, butterfish, inari, tamago, chuka idako, California maki roll, unagi maki roll, avocado salmon maki roll are worth trying.

Salt Grilled Salmon Head RN22.90

Grilled salmon is good for the crispy, slightly burnt outer layer, but still manage to keep the moist of flesh beneath. Add some soy sauce, squeezes of lemon juice on grated daikon raddish, have it together with salmon. It tastes better that way.

Nasu Miso Itame RM13.90

Stir-fried brinjal with capsicum and tomato, a vegetable dish close to Chinese dai-chao dish, replacing base with sweet miso gravy. Summergirl said she can finish the whole plate by herself, given with a bowl of white rice. Other vegetables options include Grilled Nasu with Tsuyu Sauce, Eggplant with Miso and Stir Fried Mixed Vegetables.

Grilled Pork Belly Don RM18.90

Grilled pork belly don, our favourite between the 2 rice set we sampled. Instead of being soft, with balanced layer of lean and fat meat, Kokoro grilled pork belly is towards chewy with more jaw exercise needed, akin to our Chinese Bak Gua (dried meat). Toss rice, onsen egg and meat together for better indulgence.

Ebi Tendon RM18.90

Ebi Tendon is equally delicious, one of the top sellers in Kokoro Japanese Restaurant. Large, bouncy prawn tempura, accompanied by vegetables tempura. Glad that their deep fried items are not oily, and rice is outstanding with sauce topping specially concocted by chef.

Kaisen Nabe RM23.90

Seafood hot pot in dashi base, clean and light in flavours, with mild sweetness from seafood.

IMG_3912

Claypot Seafood Udon RM17.90

Prawns, squid, fish fillet, vegetables and udon immersed in a pot of very flavourful, cloudy broth. Heavier in taste comparing to Seafood with Tofu Dashi Nabe, portion is large enough to feed two.

Gyomuyo Matcha Parfait RM 17.90
Do not leave without trying out Kokoro Gyomuyo Matcha Parfait! It is so nice! Layer after layer of surprise, adding up green tea, vanilla parfait, red bean, green tea chocolate stick, green tea cake, green tea ice cream and whipped cream finish in a tall glass. Highly recommended.
