Yut Kee Restaurant 镒记 @ Jalan Kamunting, Kuala Lumpur

Yut Kee Restaurant 镒记中西菜館 at Chow Kit Kuala Lumpur for Saturday breakfast. We have not returned to this famous Hainanese restaurant ever since it is relocated from Dang Wangi to Jalan Kamunting (one street away from The Row, Jalan Doraisamy). Not because of the food is not nice, or service not good but we are so afraid of the crowd especially near lunch hours.

We woke up earlier to try out our luck last week, as we really miss their Hainanese Chicken Chop and Roast Pork Roll with Apple Sauce. Finding a parking is really difficult. We went few rounds looking for legal parking by the roadside. When we finally found one, the “KL parking rules” showed RM1.50 for first hour, RM2 for second hour, maximum amount to put in is 2 hours. Weird system and we were not sure if we can finish our meal within 2 hours. In the end parked in the car park behind Yut Kee instead, RM5 per entry.

How to reserve your seat? Do not just sit down on those red chairs and wait for the line to clear if the restaurant is full house. Once reached, remember to go to the front counter, leave your name and dine in pax. Tauke will call your name when it is your turn. We expect to wait for at least 30 minutes but to our surprise, we waited for only 10 minutes. Yay!

Staffs were considered friendly but before we sat down, they already standing next to us, waiting to take down order. So stress and pai seh. We didn’t dare to browse through Yut Kee menu at all. Straight away ordered few items pop-up in our mind – Hainan Chicken Chop, Curry Chicken Mee Hoon Mee, Half Boiled Eggs and coffee. Glad that we did some homework by checking out some Yut Kee food photos and reviews before coming. LOL.

Hainanese Chicken Chop RM10.50

Our chicken chop arrived in less than 5 minutes! Way too speedy but understood as the kitchen need to catch up with the massive orders. Quick but still tasty – juicy, thick slab of chicken coated with egg and deep fried, further dressed in brown sauce, sided with mixed frozen vegetables and fried wedges. Felt so blessed to be able to indulge in this delicious old-school taste again.

Curry Chicken Mee RM7.50

First time trying out Yut Kee Curry Chicken Mee Hoon, pretty good. It wasn’t that spicy at the first few spoonfuls but as we continued on, the spiciness came through. Like our mee hoon being soaked up the delicious broth, same goes to the plump tofu-pok. Other noodles options include Hailam Mee, Hokkien Mee, Fried Toong Fun, Lum Mee, Beef Noodles, Ginger Fish Noodle, Cantonese Noodle and more! For rice, diners can go for Fried Rice, Salted Fish Fried ice, Ginger Chicken Rice, Rendang Rice, Char Siew Rice, Chicken Rice and more. Didn’t know that Yut Kee has such a big menu, all reasonably priced. We remembered there wasn’t any menu shown to us during our visit to Jalan Dang Wangi Yut Kee last time.

Half Boiled Egg RM3.00

Add-on a side of soft boiled egg, but skipped Kaya Roll, Marble Cake and Kaya & Butter Toast though we felt like ordering. Sadly, our soft boiled eggs were “overdone”, with almost harden egg yolk. Coffee here isn’t memorable, just eat in kopitiam must have kopi peng mar right.

Total bill came to RM24.95 including GST. We suggest to reach before 10.30AM because by the time we left, it was getting crowded outside. For more photos on Yut Kee food, can check out our blog review of Yut Kee before they moved to new place HERE.
