We still remember when Tim Ho Wan 添好運, the famous Michelin Star Dim Sum from Hong Kong opened their first outlet in Mid Valley Megamall in year 2014, people queue hours for it everyday. Until this morning, we heard the news that Tim Ho Wan will cease their operation in Malaysia due to challenging future prospects. It seems Tim Ho Wan is unable to continue their business in Malaysia anymore under such tough economy.
Based on the article from TheEdgeMarkets.com, “For the financial year ended Dec 31, 2016 (FY2016), Dim Sum Delight incurred a loss of RM895,642, and “is not expected to turn around in the near future”, Texchem said in a Bursa Malaysia filing today.”
There are 3 outlets in Malaysia now, which is Mid Valley Megamall, 1 Utama Shopping Mall and Hatten Square Melaka. This dim sum chain restaurant has expended to Singapore, Taiwan and the Philippines during this few years after they got their Michelin Star recognition in Hong Kong. Unfortunately, they are not doing well here. Stay aside the pricey fact which similar to hotel dim sum price, the original food quality as compared with the Hong Kong’s one is also another concern.
