Bottega Jalan Ceylon KL: Italian Deli, Cheese, Cured Meat, Fine Wine

September 2, 2017 by summerkid_summergirl

Speaks about the best eateries in Jalan Ceylon Kuala Lumpur, you will probably think of Neroteca- the restaurant that holds an authentic Italian menu; or you might also know Bijan – the restaurant & bar that serves awesome fine Malay cuisine. But perhaps, you might not aware that right beside these two famous restaurants, there is a deli & cafe that has some of the best cured meat, cheese and wine imported from Southern Europe.

Bottega Mediterranea

Bottega Mediterranea

Named Bottega Mediterranea, this humble eatery resides in residential unit with address 1A started off as a food and wine importer in 2011. They brought in fresh products and ingredients from all over the Italian Peninsula, and supply to many of the Italian restaurants and hotels in KL.

Be it fresh cheese, aged cheeses, cured meats, cold cuts, coffee, pickles, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, gourmet pastas, pizza crust, sauces, condiments, white and black truffles and many more – Bottega seems to have the widest choices of Italian products you could have in this bustling city.

Bottega Mediterranea

Charcuterie Platter RM51.95

While trading is the major business for this brand, they do have a small counter that sells coffee and sandwiches for for people working nearby, or residents looking to get a quick breakfast. Pretty much grab-n’-go style but mind you, cured ham + pickles + rustic bread = perfect sandwich, food that is enough to keep Summergirl a happy all day munching on it.

Charcuterie Platter – Cold Cuts

Recently, Bottega has taken a step further, section out part of the shop space and turns it into a cafe. But too bad they opened only on weekdays and when we knew that they are finally opend on first 2 Sundays every month, we are so happy and paid it a visit!

Bottega Mediterranea

White Wine Zonin Pinot Grigior RM23.30/glass

It was a quiet Sunday with afternoon breeze as company. We sat in their al-fresco dining area, sharing a plate of cold cuts and cheese platter (Charcuterie Platter) with a glass of lovely white.

If outdoor is too hot for you, just sneak into the indoor air-conditioned space.

Bottega Mediterranea

Charcuterie Platter – Cheeses/Pickles

Cheeses – Pecorino Sardo, Asiago, Parmigiano Reggiano; Cured Meat – Parma Ham, Porchetta, Lomo Iberico, Spicy Salami, Salami Napoli; Side Dishes – Zucchini, Pickled Onions, Sun Dried Tomatoes. Our top pick: Spicy Salami and Parma Ham! Summergirl never likes salami but this is so good. No bad smells, nice chewiness and none greasy. Parma Ham is easily accepted, not too hard to become a crowd favourite.

Spotted their daily set lunch menu which is quite value in price as it covers main courses + dessert + drink. The latest menu has 4 choices to choose from:

  1. Margherita Pizza + Apple OR Peach Juice + Profiteroles + Americano
  2.  Sandwich (Honey Ham, Asiago Cheese, Pesto Sauce) + Americano +Ice Cream
  3.  Penne Arrabbiata + Peach OR Ice Lemon Tea +Pannacotta
  4. Green lasagna + Orange OR Lemon Soda +Tiramisu

Bottega Mediterranea

Margherita Pizza RM19.08

Ordered a Margherita Pizza. For a pizza crust from pre-packaged box, we would say that it is so good. Not bad taste and lack in chewiness pizza base we sometimes bought in hypermarket but a chewy, with crispy edges crust! Spreaded with imported Italian tomato sauces and liberal margherita cheese toppings, baked and have a cheesy outcome that is oo-so-good. Recommended.

Bottega Mediterranea

Pannacotta with Chocolate Syrup RM12.72

Panna Cotta, drizzles with chocolate sauce. Nothing fancy, but a simple Italian dessert that is enough to end the meal sweet.

Bottega Mediterranea

Pago Orange Juice 200ml RM4.98

Overall review: We should have discover Bottega Jalan Ceylon earlier. But better be late than never. We are looking forward to go back for their cold cuts, and stock up some Italian tomato sauce for our pasta and pizza. Yay! By the way, if you are too busy to visit them, or their opening time doesn’t match your schedule. No worries, because they have home delivery. And delivery is free for spending above RM100!
