Super Saigon Sri Hartamas KL: Melbourne-style Pho, Vietnamese Food

November 26, 2017 by summerkid_summergirl

At Super Saigon, makes your Vietnamese food indulgence more interesting with Melbourne-style pho, and a long list of delicacies that stay close to their authenticity – bun cha, spring rolls, banh mi, Vietnamese coffee, etc..

Started out in TTDI, with second outlet just opened in Jalan Sri Hartamas 8, Super Saigon is certainly the rising star for Klang Valley new cafes this year. The brand carries a good crowd during lunch, dinner and in between; their charming blue-white interior is so catchy that we could hardly not giving it a second glance every time when we pass by Jalan Sultan Sulaiman TTDI; some of our friends who went before said food there are quite nice – enough to convince us to pay a visit.

Finally had our Vietnamese pho and banh mi craving fixed at Super Saigon Jalan Sri Hartamas outlet last Saturday. The restaurant is situated behind The Prep Room Café, the corner lot which is also the former location of Podgy & the Banker. With signature blue greyish white theme similar to Super Saigon TTDI, it is easily spotted. Look up for the large SUPER SAIGON shop signage. LOL.

Special Combination Beef Pho RM19.90

Pho, an evergreen dish that you shouldn’t miss out in Super Saigon. Using True Aussie Beef, pho here poises to entice your tastebuds with high quality beef. Looking at the Special Beef Combination Pho that will have True Aussie beef slices, beef brisket, beef tendon, beef balls and beef tripe all in a bowl of steamy soup with flat noodles, we have enough reasons to go greedy, no reason for not ordering this.

Fresh Rice Paper Roll wrapped with Prawns & Veggies RM9.90

Super Saigon Sri Hartamas KL

Fresh vegetables, herbs, vermicelli and prawns wrapped into semi-transparent rice paper, summing to simple yet healthy Vietnamese appetizer that it always has been. Summergirl likes eating this on its own, but you can further flavoured up with creamy rich Vietnamese peanut dipping sauce, garnished with plenty of crushed peanuts.

Mixed Chicken Cold Cuts Banh Mi RM12.90

Couldn’t decide which banh mi to check out hence we went with the “star”. Yeap, dishes with a star next to the dish name indicates Super Saigon recommendation. Vietnamese baguette, halved, smothered with chicken liver pate, stuffed with chicken cold cuts, shredded carrots, cucumbers, spring onions, coriander, egg mayonnaise and red chilli pepper – our Mixed Chicken Cold Cuts Banh Mi is a light version from real Vietnamese banh mi, healthier too but doesn’t fall short in flavours and texture.

Chewiness of bun, crunchiness of vegetables, creaminess of mayo and pate with sharp chilli clocks in just right into texture-loaded munch. Bite deeply for more satisfying banh mi experience.

Aromatic Grilled Lemonrass Chicken & Crispy Spring Roll RM16.90

Despite being pork-free Bun cha, having Grilled Lemongrass Chicken, Grilled Lamb Chop, Sauteed Sliced Beef or Grilled Tofu as the protein replacement isn’t too bad though. We especially enjoy their Grilled Lemongrass Chicken. So flavourful, laced with pleasing charred aroma.

Take a bit of everything – meat, herbs, bean sprouts, vermicelli, then dip into the sauce and eat. Broth served along is more like a dipping sauce, and it is cold. Complicated in taste but bold and refreshing, which made it memorable for us when we first tasted bun cha in Hanoi. If cold soba and tsuyu sauce is your thing, bun cha could be your favourite but still, they are taste from two different worlds. Haha.

Other food selections on Super Saigon includes Broken Rice Grilled Lemongras Chicken, Stir Fried Koay Teow Sliced Beef, Marinated Pulled Ox Tail Banh Mi, Special Beef & Chcken Noodle Soup, Crispy Spring Roll with Prawns & Minced Chicken, just to name a few.

Hot Vietnamese Milk Coffee RM7.90

Watching the dripping of coffee is the best part for Vietnamese drip coffee, even though just for few minutes. Have it in iced or hot.

3 Colour RM7.90

Besides Vietnamese coffee, 3 Colours and Sam Po Leung are more special drinks on Super Saigon beverage list. Like dessert like drink for the former – having Azuki red beans, sweet corn, cendol, crushed ice, sweetened coconut milk towered up in tall glass; the later is nourishing like Chinese sweet soup – snow fungus, red dates, dried longan, lotus seed.

Price for most items in Super Saigon falls below RM20. Service is friendly, staffs are very attentive and helpful.
