Baan Phadthai, Pavilion KL: Bangkok Award-Winning Restaurant Now in Malaysia

Baan Phadthai, a multiple award-winning MICHELIN Bib Gourmand restaurant famous for their phad thai cooked with 18 secret ingredients sauce as well as other Thai street food, is finally opened at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur!

The wait is over. We are truly thrill to know that after Taiwan and Hong Kong, Malaysia is finally welcoming Baan Phadthai restaurant, having the first outlet at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. As you walk along the Connection precinct of the shopping mall, you would not miss the restaurant painted in bright blue color, decorated with Thai vintage paintings, photos, wood-shuttered windows and dining space that creates a classic Thai street food ambience. Even the cutlery is specially selected, like those we use when dine in Bangkok street stalls!

Hailing from Bangkok, Baan Phadthai Bangkok was awarded the coveted Bib Gourmand in the inaugural MICHELIN Guide Bangkok in 2018, right after the opening. It has since received the award 5 years in a row up to 2022, rewarding the restaurant’s dedication and consistency in serving the very best phadthai. Also, before Baan Phadthai opened in 2018, the founder spent months sourcing the very best raw materials to create the perfect recipe. One very important ingredient is the secret and delicate 18-ingredients sauce cooked together with the very best quality of “Sen Jan” rice noodle.

Baan Phadthai’s Phadthai Kai Yang is our favourite – stir-fried with eggs, chopped firm tofu, tamarind pulp, fish sauce, dried shrimp, garlic, red chili pepper and palm sugar, secret sauce; and juicy, tender slices of grilled chicken on top for protein. Enjoy with condiments like raw bean sprouts, crushed toasted peanuts, chives, lime wedge that served along for that extra flavours and textures.

What makes Baan Phadthai more worthwhile is, they have phad thai with seafood, which is not commonly found in Kuala Lumpur. You would love the Phad Thai Jumbo Mud Crab that features a whole mud crab, portion that is generous enough for two. Not to forget, Phadthai Jumbo Goong Mae Nam that has jumbo blue river prawn topped over a plateful of stir-fried noodles .

Other than pad thai, diners can expect a wide selection of  popular Thai dishes on Baan Phadhtai menu, that will surely tantalize your taste buds. Highlighting the top must-try food:

Kai Tawt– Deep fried chicken wings served with homemade nam jim kai

Miang Khana – Do it yourself kale leaves with mixed chicken crackling, served with salty-sweet shrimp paste sauce

Laab Nuea Tawt – Hot & sour beef meatballs

Yum Kai Yang – Grilled marinated chicken spicy salad served with cucumber, cherry tomatoes, onions and fresh local herbs

Tao Hoo Tawt– Deep fried tofu with taro, chestnuts and peanuts

Nuea Ping – Grilled Beef Skewers

Kai Satay – Grilled chicken satay with curry peanut sauce, served with cucumber relish

Yum Kana Goong Sod – Blanched organic kale, Thai herbs, spicy lime dressing and fresh white shrimps

Personally, we strongly recommend you to check out their appetizers if you are here. All those we had tried above are amazing. We personally enjoy the Kai Tawt – crunchy deep fried to golden brown with juiciness locked inside chicken wings; Nuea Ping is meaty, succulent, lined with slightly charred edges for grill smoky sensation; Yum Kai Yang is so spicy, packed quite a punch yet addictive. We literally can’t stop tucking in these, great snacks to go with Phad Thai. Another salad that we had, Yum Kana Goong Sod, is superb too.

For the desserts, get ready to indulge into something unique. For example, their Tub Tim Krob is a concoction of ruby water chestnut with smoked coconut syrup, coconut juice granita. Taste slightly different from the Tub Tim Krob we normally have. But we like how the smoked coconut syrup complement the overall dessert – it is sweet, with faint, subtle bitterness and pleasing caramelized notes.

We also sampled Khao Niaw Mamuang that put together ripe mango, sweet coconut sticky rice, salted coconut sauce.

Ended with Bua Loy Pueak – Taro Bua loy and young coconut floated in buttery pea coconut milk syrup.

Overall, we had good times at Baan Phadthai, sharing these wonderful Thai street food with few of our friends. Certainly missing our trip to Bangkok already. Do come by for lunch or dinner whenever you feel like having phad thai (* and that super-addictive deep fried chicken wings), till your next trip to Thailand.
