The First Chapter Speakeasy Bar, TTDI

It has been a while since we last visited a speakeasy bar in KL. Found one which is noteworthy recently, located in TTDI Kuala Lumpur. Payasam dessert cocktail with the bar’s very own take on the classic Indian dessert itself has already enough to make the speakeasy bar noteworthy, amongst others.

This Kuala Lumpur’s hidden bar, The First Chapter Speakeasy TTDI is actually pretty new in town, specializing in unique craft cocktails with multifaceted bookstore and speakeasy concept, setting to make waves in the local cocktail scene. Suggested to make reservation ahead before you visit. You will be given a special access code, then you will have to locate the secret entrance. Hint to enter: A huge wall-to-ceiling book shelves

Behind the hidden door lies a world of opulence and sophistication, with finer details of an industrial meets contemporary interior. Get ready to expect the unexpected the moment you walk in. Coupled with craft cocktails inspired by barside classics, local delights, and pop culture references, rest assured, The First Speakeasy Bar will not disappoint.

The First Chapter Speakeasy menu offers a selection of classic and exceptional craft cocktails made with only the finest ingredients. The team is passionate about experimenting with different flavour profiles to create new experiences for their patrons. Their Signature Rose & Chrysanthemum Gins for example, are infused in-house and impart distinct floral notes. Sampled some of the signature cocktails during our visit last weekend.

Ben’s Magarita RM38 – Ben’s version of the classic Margarita, with a healthy double shot of Don Julio Tequila, cointreau, fresh lime, organic Agave and sea salt, this cocktail is refreshing, pleasing in taste.

Payasam RM30 – must-try cocktail, perfect for mint lovers with a sweet tooth. A creamy concoction of Creme De Menthe, Creme de Cacao, house infused coconut cream, fernet brance.

Wake Me the F*ck Up RM35 – House infused cold brew, kahlua, house infused vanilla vodka. This is a drink for coffee-cocktail lovers.

The Russ RM38 – Oh wow there’s Tuak in this gin-based cocktail. with Tranqueray, house infused bluberry tincture, aquafaba, lemon.

The Scottish Nut RM35 – our second favourite drink at The First Speakeasy Bar. The peatiness from the Johnnie Walker Black Lable combined with creaminess from the bar’s house infused hazelnut tineture leads to a balanced, citrusy cocktail with hint of sweetness.

Regina George RM38 – House-infused raspberry and bubble gum tincture, Grey Goose, Aquafaba, lemon.

The First Chapter Signature Chrysanthemum infused Gin RM42 – here comes the highlight. Served in wine glass, this cocktail has a medley of sweet, warm and tangy flavours from East Imperial Burma Tonic, Charred Chinese Liquorice, Juniper, a new twist to the claaisc Gin & Tonic.

The Mandarine RM38 – last but not least, we had a sensational citrusy cocktail that incorporates High Proof Whiskey with Yuzu, orange, Qauafaba, lemon, Cointreau. Silk smooth, stemmed from the team’s love for all things Oriental. Another top favourite of ours.

In addition to the great cocktails and opulent surroundings, light appetisers made in-house are available on The First Chapter food menu too. Selections aren’t extensive, but everything pairs so well with the cocktails. From Burger Slider, Deep Fried Mushroom, Onion Ring to Gula Melaka Chicken Bites.

Gula Melaka Chicken Bites is one of the must-try, featuring chunks of chicken, battered, deep fried to golden brown and coated with spicy sweet gula Melaka sauce. Oh-so-addictive snack.

3 Beef Sliders that got all the ingredients right for satisfying bite in one big mouthful. Australian beef brisket, caramelized onions, homemade anchovy oil, Monterey Jack cheese sandwich within two toasted bun. 3 in a serving, you wouldn’t want to share.

Cultivating the right atmosphere was of utmost importance to the team during the ideation phase. The First Chapter Speakeasy Bar TTDI aims to create a space where the smallest details made the biggest difference. Every aspect, from the cocktails to the interior design, was carefully chosen to provide the best experience. Book a table and make your way to the secret space behind the wall of books.
