While new cafes and bars continue to take up the spaces in Chow Kit area, be it along the Heritage Row Jalan Doraisamy or Jalan Kamunting, The Qing has set to be unique from the rest, making a difference by presenting Chinese cuisine in an elegant settings – where cultures meets and kinship ignites.

Located along Jalan Kamunting, next to Tapestry, The Qing presents an array of pork-free dim sum and Cantonese delights  with a modern touch, giving diners a peek into culinary culture of the past while boasting exemplary cooking techniques.

The Qing Signature which include Unique Charcoal Swan Dumpling, The Qing Sambal Petai Prawn Dumpling, Signature Prawn Beancurd Skin Roll Wrapped with Rice Roll, Vietnamese Prawn Mango Roll Topped with Mango Dressing, Baked Crispy BBQ Chicken Bun, Four Dim Sum Combination are some of the recommended dim sum.  Must-try the Four Dim Sum Combination that put together Prawn Dumpling, Katsuobushi Siew Mai, XO Scallop Dumpling, Smoked Duck Dumpling.  We get to try out 4 types of dim sum in one go, one each, without having to be in dilemma thinking how to finish the third one – which always happen to us whenever we go for dim sum, as most of them are served with 3 pieces in a basket. Nice concept from The Qing though. Suitable for couple, and maybe groups visiting in even numbers. Haha.

Had been a while since we last had Lao Sha Bao bun. Ordered due to sudden cravings. Nice try, fluffy fun, filled with gooey rich, creamy salted egg cream filling. Another Red Koji Rice Steamed Bun with BBQ Chicken sounds special too. Other dim sum options you can have in The Qing are Homemade Szechuan Pepper Chicken Parcel, Cheese Moza Beancurd Roll, Crispy Butter Chicken Floss Stick, Freshly Baked Egg Tart, Stir Fried Radish Cake with Signature Sambal, Deep Fried Katafi Roll with Avocado Cream.

Besides Chinese dim sum, The Qing also churns out dishes ideal for sharing. From Szechuan Hot & Sour Soup with Canada Scallop and Crab Meat, Braised Superior Dried Seafood Soup with Jade Abalone Shredded, Double Boiled Chicken Soup with Cordyceps Flower Soup, Stir Fried Mantis Prawn Meat with Butter Cream, Stewed Grouper Fish Fillet with Egg Plant and Minced Meat, Wok Fried Squid with Kam Heong Style, Steamed Baby Cutterfish with Mint & Lemon Sauce, Sauteed Scallop Lotus Root Vegetable with Macadamia Nut, Wok Fried Beef Striploin with Ginger & Scallion, just to name a few.

Among the wide selections, some of the more interesting are Homemade Stewed Australian Brisket with Herbal, Sous Vide Cherry Wood Smoked Chicken Roulade with Black Truffle, Deep Fried Charcoal Beancurd in Golden Sand, Canada Scallop Fried Rice Topped Black Truffle, Sambal Petai Yong Chow Fried Rice, Braised Wantan Noodle with Beef Brisket, Pan Seared A5 Wagyu served with Black Pepper Sauce. We had the Homemade Stewed Australian Brisket with Herbal RM55, which is really good. Stewed for hours to achieve tender, fall off the bone clean meat. Recommended.

Cantonese Fried Wantan Noodle with Water Prawn RM58 – Summerkid’s favourite. Comfort food that is hard to go wrong with. Wantan noodles deep fried to golden brown, topped with thick, flavourful gravy and water prawn.

Overall, we like the service and ambience in The Qing. We personally enjoy their ala-carta sharing dishes more than dim sum. They do have Set Menu too. So if you find the menu too extensive and have a hard time deciding what to order, you may want to go for the set, and add on with one or two of your favourites. But do note that their Executive Set Lunch, Classic Set Lunch  and Dim Sum Set are available only on weekdays.
