Gyutaro Yakiniku Damansara: Course Set with Japan A5 Cut

June 25, 2023 by summerkid_summergirl

Our first Japanese wagyu dinner at Gyutaro Publika was satisfying, where we get to taste 3 of the top A5 wagyu from Japan, namely Omi Hime, Hida Shichiri, and Miyazaki – premium quality, beautiful marbling. Browse through Gyutaro website again last week to get some information for write-up, and we found that they have added new promo into the menu – Chef Special Course Set with 4 types of Japan A5 cut yakiniku as highlight!

Decided to make a reservation to try out the course set menu, this round at their another outlet at Damansara Uptown for a switch of dining experience as we heard that the ambience at Gyutaro Damansara Uptown is very different from the one at Gyutaro Publika.

Indeed, it is. Gyutaro Damansara Uptown is bigger, very spacious spanning across three floors, each carrying their own theme. Ground floor is more standard for normal dining; 1st floor is mainly designed with private room style for better privacy; while for 2nd floor – our favourite!

Felt like we have been transported into Japan once stepping into second floor. Huge wall of JR line train stations, printed to detail, completed with tatami style seating. Just one thing to note, the two upper floors are not opened at all times. Meaning it is usually opened based on occupancy. During our visit, only the ground floor is opened. If you are looking for a place for event, or bigger crowd dining, you may make special request to dine in the 1st and 2nd floor.

For food, we opted for Chef Special Course Menu – the reason why we revisit Gyutaro Yakiniku, as mentioned. It is similar to Kin Gyu Hartamas Wagyu Omakase Menu, featuring a series of appetizer, hot soup, fried item, Japanase Wagyu cut from Yakiniku, rice and dessert to complete. There are 3 types of Set Menu – Silver Course,  Gold Course, and Diamond Course. Price is RM198++, RM298++, RM598++. Initially we wanted to try Silver Course and Gold Course each, but was told that minimum order for each course type is 2pax, to minimize wagyu cut wastage.

So we went ahead with Silver Course. Let’s check out what we had. The meal started with 3 types of appetizers – cucumber kimchi, white radish kimchi and cabbage kimchi; and a salad.

Next, we were served with Gyusuji Daikon Nikomi for Seasonal Soup course. Love the tender beef muscle with chews, and raddish well-soaked up with the flavours of soup. Also came together with the soup is Churippu Karaage, one of the signature fried dishes on Gyutaro menu.

Maru Tan
Tokusen Syabu

Our favourite course of the day. Staff is very patience and guide us how to cook the Maru Tan perfectly. He suggested us to leave the meat slices on the charcoal grill until the meat slice is fully cooked before flipping it over, so that it won’t stick onto the grill.

4 Type of Japan A5 Cuts

Followed on will be most anticipating course – 4 type of Japan A5 cut for yakiniku.

When a plate of yakiniku meat was served, we were like: “owh a lot of meat, enough to share between us.”. Seconds later, another plate followed. That portion is seriously big. Our conversation immediately became :” How are we going to finish?”

Gyutaro-Damansara-12

Gyutaro-Damansara-13

Ended up we managed to finish just one plate of it, and request if we could take away another plate. Luckily staff said we can. Else, we would feel very bad as the leftover might have gone to waste.

Meal
Teru Soup/ Teru Kubba

Gyutaro-Damansara-15

We were already full to the brim by the time staff ask we would like to have Teru Soup or Teru Kubba. Request to have just one portion of the soup to share, to avoid wastage. It is actually Oxtail Egg Drop Soup, very soothing and comforting. You can also enjoy with rice, a good combination but we were way too stuffed.

Dessert
Today’s Dessert

Gyutaro-Damansara-16

Häagen-Dazs ice cream as dessert! We choose green tea and chocolate flavour.

Total bill came to about RM471 for 2 Silver Course, 2 green tea and 1 Coke. Personally feel that this wagyu meal course set is well-worth the price, considering the portion. The wagyu cuts given might not be the best we had tried in KL, and of course couldn’t compare with the Top 3 A5 wagyu we previously had but for the portion, it is really generous, which make up the entire dining experience. Go for the Gold Course or Diamond Course if you want more premium cuts, as specially selected A5 wagyu cuts are offered for the former, and by reservation only Omi Atsukiri Cuts are served for the latter.
