On the evening of July 27th, 2023, the highly anticipated media launch of “The art of drinking” takes place at the renowned Astor Bar, located at level 2 in The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur. Guests are set to experience the all-new cocktail journey as they are introduced to a captivating journey through the rich heritage of New York’s five historical boroughs: Lower Manhattan, Midtown, Upper Manhattan, East Side, and West Side.

The beginning of “The art of drinking”
The journey of “The art of drinking” begins with the handcrafted Bloody Mary, a cocktail perfected by one of St. Regis New York’s mixologist. The iconic Asam Boi Mary, a unique interpretation of the classic St. Regis Bloody Mary is featured as a welcome drink during the event. This signature cocktail is made with Asam Boi-infused Vodka, bird’s eye chili, and a mix of vegetable and tomato juice, creating a distinct twist that reflects the exquisite flavours of Malaysia.

For pre-event drinks, guests may also indulge in classic cocktails like the Old Fashioned and Rob Roy, expertly crafted with the distinguished Aberfeldy 12 Year Old. Renowned for its exceptional quality, Aberfeldy i2 Year Old’s balanced flavour profile and smoothness make it enjoyable neat, on the rocks, or as a base for various whisky cocktails.

Embracing the legacy of the original House of Astor
The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur’s Astor Bar exudes opulence in every aspect, boasting a private art collection, and its furniture adorned with customized saddle-inspired elements pays homage to John Jacob Astor’s favorite sport – polo. To further elevate our guests’ experience to new heights, The St. Regis Kuala Lumpur introduces “The art of drinking” experience originated from The St. Regis New York.

Apart from experiencing the art of mixology, guests also get to discover Astor Bar’s hidden treasures like the one and only publicly display The Macallan Red Collection in The Macallan M Room, and also admire the captivating art collection such as photograph of Brigitte Bardot by Terry O’Neil as a part of “The art of drinking” experience.

Timeless traditions and signature rituals of The St. Regis
One of the enchanting moments during the event is the unveiling of the St. Regis evening ritual called ‘The Violet Hour’. This ritual symbolises the transition from day to evening, embracing the endless possibilities of the night. The concept is beautifully captured by a quote from the American historian, Bernard Devoto:

“This is the Violet Hour, the hour of hush and wonder when the affections glow and valor is reborn when the shadows deepen along the edge of the forest, and we believe that if we watch carefully, at any moment we may see the unicorn.”

Starting from 28th July, between 7:00PM and 8:00PM daily, all bar guests will be treated to a complimentary Violet Hour Martini to experience the magic of the Violet Hour firsthand. “The art of drinking” menu will also be officially available at Astor Bar from 28th July onwards, featuring a collection of the New York-inspired cocktails.
