September 17, 2024 by summerkid_summergirl

Sushi Kita in Seibu TRX, a new sushi omakase restaurant that serves traditional Edomae-style sushi. The team is headed by Chef Haruka Hokune, who brings over a decade of experience from Japan and Malaysia to the table. Get ready to savor authentic flavors of Japanese cuisine, right in the city of Kuala Lumpur.

If you’re a fan of authentic Japanese omakase and on the lookout for a dining experience that combines traditional techniques with a fresh perspective, then Sushi Kita should be at the top of your list. Nestled within the SEIBU Department Store at Tun Razak Exchange in Kuala Lumpur, this newest sushi omakase restaurant in town is finally opened to public,  ready to offer a taste of Japan’s rich culinary heritage through its meticulously crafted Edomae-style sushi.

The restaurant is the brainchild of Chef Haruka Hokune, who carries more than a decade of experience in the industry, marked by significant achievements and leadership roles. As a co-founder of the Hanareya Hospitality Group, her move into entrepreneurship reflects her passion for sharing her knowledge and love for Japanese food, carving out a niche with her deep understanding of Japanese cuisine.

Here, every dish is a testament to the skill and dedication of the chefs, who use only the finest seafood and adhere to time-honored methods to deliver an exceptional dining experience. They believe that understanding and faithfully following the inherent umami of each ingredient is essential to deliver flavours deeply rooted in tradition.

We had the pleasure to visit Sushi Kita for dinner on their first week of opening. Sampled a wonderful omakase menu that start with appetizer, followed by chawanmushi, 8 kinds of sushi, miso soup and dessert. A taste of surprise right from the start.

Love the appetizer – prepared using fresh edamame that taste so different from the frozen ones; and unagi mix with cucumber, seaweed, soy sauce.

Chawanmushi,  a classic Japanese steamed egg custard that is so jiggly smooth, melt-in-mouth, setting the perfect tone for the courses to come.

Mehikari, a deep sea fish which is tiny and troublesome to prepare. It is said to be popular in Japan, available mostly in sushi restaurants.

End our meal with Shoyu Flavour Ice Cream. We tried this savory-sweet ice cream when we were in Yuasa, Wakayama. Really bring back all our good memories in the prefecture!

After our omakase dinner at Sushi Kita, we wing by Hanareya Suisan, which is also within the SEIBU department store. They have a great selection of seafood imported directly from Japan, and you can either pick up some ready-to-eat Japanese delicacies or choose your own fresh seafood if you’re planning to cook at home. I ended up grabbing a few items for a later meal, definitely will return for more!
