Yulek Wantan Mee 友力云吞面 @ Taman Yulek: Cheras KL Best Char Siew Wan Tan Mee

Yulek Wantan Mee (友力云吞面) at Taman Yulek , Cheras KL was formerly one of the stalls located in Restaurant Meng Sheng, more known as Yulek Meng Kee Char Siew Wan Tan Mee. From a humble stall to a proper shop, Yulek Wantan Mee ‘s popularity grows from time to time, with constant returned customers, as well as new visitors like us to get a taste of their legendary Char Siew Siew Yuk Wan Tan Mee.

Char Siew

This eatery is said to have the best char siew in Cheras. We couldn’t really confirm this, since we have not tried all stalls, cafes, and restaurants in Cheras that offer Char Siew. But we personally feel that the shop offers better char siew in their wantan mee when comparing to many other wan tan mee in KL and PJ. Just, not our top favourite in terms of only char siew.

Siu Yoke Wan Tan Mee Dry RM6.50

However, Yulek Wan Tan Mee noodles is the clear winner. Thin, springy noodles beautifully coated with saltiness of soy sauce, aroma of sesame oil and colour of dark sauce. Probably by adding a touch of sweetness, Summerkid will rate this as his new favourite wantan mee, seeing that the shop in Klang, which churns out this flavours since his childhood has stopped their business.

Siu Yoke

Diners can choose to have siu yoke, char siew, gei giok (chicken feet), pai guat (pork ribs) as their wan tan mee toppings. You can also order plain noodles, and sharing portion of roasted meat separately.

Char Siew

We guessed we were not given the best part of their char siew, lessen our satisfaction over Yulek Wan Tan Mee Char Siew. We got a plate of thickly cut meat, texture too hard for our liking. Not much charred edges, laced with sweetness but lack of burnt flavour. For siew yoke, it wasn’t any better either, except for the crispy crackling skin.

Char Siew Wan Tan Mee Soup RM6.50

Unless you are 100% not into dry wantan mee during your visit, it is not advisable to order soup base. The soup is pale, lack of flavour, not memorable even though with good noodles. This is the time when the char siew and siu yoke come in right to heighten up the flavours.

Sui Kow RM1.50 each

Sui Kow is nice. You can order soup sui kow or deep fried sui kow, priced at RM1.50 each. Of course we opted for the deep fried version. Golden brown, crispy outer layer brimming with flavourful minced meat and chopped vegetable to please. Recommended.

Comments: Superb noodles but not exceptionally great roasted meat. For char siew, maybe you can order half lean half fat aka “bun fei sau” for better taste. Love the sui kow. Total bill came to RM18.20 plus a glass of barley ice. Read from few blog reviews that waiting time for wan tan mee to reach is long. Some said 45 minutes, some even 1 hour depends on the crowd. For us, we waited for about 15 minutes, even though it was full house. Service is good and polite.
