Things have been hectic lately, and we’re glad to finally squeeze in a quick city escape. Nothing too far, just a change of scene to relax and recharge – A much-needed 2D1N staycation at InterContinental Kuala Lumpur.
And this time, what made us choose InterContinental KL is their Stay & Dine package. This offer comes with a comfortable hotel stay paired with dinner at Tatsu Japanese Cuisine, one of our favourite Japanese restaurants in the city, helmed by the talented Chef Hiroshi Masuda. We had dined at Tatsu before and really enjoyed the quality and authenticity of the food, so this was an easy decision.
Besides the dining part, we loved the convenience of the location. The hotel also provides complimentary shuttle service to both Pavilion KL and Suria KLCC, so we could skip the hassle of driving and parking. Getting around was super easy with LRT and MRT Ampang Park stations. From the LRT, it’s just one stop to Suria KLCC. From the MRT, it’s only three stops to TRX – KL’s latest and most happening high-end commercial business hub, filled with trendy eateries and shops. P/S: Check out The LINC KL nearby too if you have time. It’s one of the best spots for artsy murals, OOTD spots, cafes.
Super King Premium Club Lounge Access
For our stay, we chose a Super King Premium Room that comes with Club InterContinental access. Been to few IHG hotels but this is our first time staying at InterContinental KL and the moment we stepped into the room, we were impressed – That Super King Sized Bed is soooooo big.
It is noticeably larger than the usual King size beds we’re used to. Perfect for couples who enjoy extra space, small families with kids, or even a group of three to four friends on a getaway.
The room size was spacious at 42 square metres, with vibrant blue and yellow carpet that added a cheerful contrast, paired with wooden and marble finishes that gave the room a classic yet contemporary feel. Warm, elegant, and very clean. A touch of classic European charm, subtly blended with modern design.
The room also came fully equipped with thoughtful amenities. A work desk, a lounge sofa, ergonomic lounge chair, coffee machine, drinking water, coffee & tea-making facilities, a large LED TV, high-speed WiFi, a safe, bathrobes, and of course, a bathtub – almost a non-negotiable when Summerkid’s on staycation.
Summerkid likes that how the bathtub faces the TV, so he can have a warm soak while watching movie. #LifeIsBetterThisWay
The bathroom also featured Byredo luxury bath amenities, which added a touch of indulgence to our experience.
Club InterContinental access
One of the best parts of this stay was the Club InterContinental access, and we highly recommend topping up for this whether you’re booking the Stay & Dine package, or not.
So why upgrade to the Club InterContinental lounge access? You get to enjoy all-day non-alcoholic drinks, daily breakfast minus the chaos, afternoon tea, evening cocktails, use of a private meeting room, late check out based on availability, laundry service, and, other enhanced services throughout the stay.
Club InterContinental is located on a high floor with a calm and refined atmosphere — a great place to unwind away from the crowd. We started our afternoon with their signature three-tiered afternoon tea in a mix of sweet & savoury, served daily from 2:30pm to 4:30pm.
Later in the evening, we returned to the lounge for the evening cocktail session, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. This was a highlight — the lounge serves a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including wine, beer, spirits, cocktails and even Prosecco. There was also a well-curated selection of hors d’oeuvres to go along with our drinks. Perfect for us to sit back, relax, and ease into the night before dinner.
Dinner time! Also highlight of our Stay & Dine Package, where we had our dinner at Tatsu Japanese Cuisine.
We were served with Teishoku-style set dinner. Started with Dashimaki, miso soup with tofu and wakame, wakame salad, chawanmushi, and a side of shibazuke and takuan pickles.
Set Course Dinner, Tatsu Japanese Cuisine
Shrimp, sweet potato, eggplant, and okra assorted tempura – all deep fried to a crisp golden brown yet not greasy. Steamed Japanese rice was served alongside, and for the main dish, we could choose from a few options: Stir-Fried Beef with Ginger Sauce, Chicken Teriyaki, Salmon Teriyaki, or Assorted Sushi. We went for the Salmon Teriyaki & Stir-Fried Beef with Ginger Sauce, totally loved it!
The portion size was really generous. Honestly, a lot of food for one person. We couldn’t finish everything, but it was definitely a fulfilling meal. End our dinner with a scoop of green tea ice cream.
On top of this dinner, the package also includes a 20% discount at other hotel dining venues like Tao Chinese Cuisine, Serena Brasserie, OneSixFive Lounge and Bentley’s Pub (excluding tobacco and alcoholic drinks), which is great if you’re staying longer or want to explore more dining options in-house.
Swimming Pool Morning Walk
The next morning, we woke up early, took a short walk at the swimming pool. Love how the sunlight was hitting just right, creating a calm, tranquil setting, and we regretted not bringing our swimsuits to enjoy a dip. Maybe next time!
Quick workout at the fitness centre to burn off all that delicious food? Not this round, because we headed down for breakfast instead. Haha.
Breakfast at Serene Brasserie
With Club InterContinental access, we had the option to enjoy breakfast either at the Club InterContinental or at Serena Brasserie. We chose Serena Brasserie, simply because we wanted to experience the lively breakfast scene.
The breakfast spread was lovely. They have everything from local Malaysian favourites like nasi lemak, roti canai, mee goreng, thosai, and soto, to a hearty Western selection – sausages, salami, scrambled eggs, baked beans, roasted potatoes, salad, cheese, pancake, waffle, and freshly baked pastries. They even have miso soup and hot soy milk – for those who want a warm, comforting start. Unfortunately, the egg station had quite a long queue by the time we got there, so we missed out on custom eggs. Note to self: come earlier next time!
We ended our staycation with a few more photos around the hotel, and sat down for a cup of hot chocolate before check-out. It was a lovely end to a relaxing getaway. Big thanks to all staffs for their hospitality throughout our stay.
All in all, we found this Stay & Dine package at InterContinental Kuala Lumpur very worthwhile. It covers everything we love in a short city break – a spacious and comfortable room, luxury amenities, exclusive Club Lounge access with afternoon tea and evening cocktails, a Japanese dinner, and buffet breakfast the next day. Plus, the convenience of being right in the city, close to malls, transport, and cool lifestyle hubs like The LINC and TRX, made everything even better.
